Fisherman Danh Phu (residing in Phu Quoc special zone, An Giang province) shared that in 1983, after being discharged from the army, he returned to his hometown to work at sea with his family and continue to participate in group activities. Thanks to his hard-working nature, combined with his father's experience in the sea, Danh Phu's family life became more and more prosperous. However, he always lived in harmony with the people in the neighborhood, so he was loved by everyone.
Since then, the activities initiated by Mr. Danh Phu have always been well received by the people. Every year, Mr. Danh Phu has stood up to mobilize and voluntarily support nearly 500 million VND with the locality to help many poor households go offshore to sea...

Lieutenant Colonel Danh Tam, Political Commissar of the Border Guard Command of Duong Dong Port, An Giang Provincial Border Guard Command, said: “Over the past years, especially since the European Commission issued a yellow card warning to our country's fisheries industry, Mr. Phu has maximized his role as a responsible citizen for the sea and islands of his homeland. He has supported two ships to join the Maritime Militia, one ship with the locality to join the Disaster Prevention, Rescue and Search Team, and one ship with the Border Guard to propagate and disseminate laws at sea, especially the contents on preventing illegal fishing in foreign waters.”
Another case is fisherman Vo Ngoc Thu, who is nearly 80 years old this year and has been working at sea for more than 50 years in Hon Dat commune, An Giang province. Because Mr. Thu often cares and shares many good experiences in catching seafood, he is respected by fishermen. In addition, Mr. Thu is also one of the ship owners who actively takes the lead in local movements and the Linh Huynh Border Guard Station.
Commenting on Mr. Thu, Border Guard officer Linh Huynh said that Mr. Thu has knowledge of the law, he actively participates in propaganda activities against illegal fishing in foreign waters for fishermen. Since then, for many years, he has been considered one of the typical fishermen, always taking the lead in propagating the law for people in Hon Dat commune...

“I am a veteran and old, so I have to be a good example and actively participate in movements launched by the locality and the Border Guard. My family has a boat, so when the locality needs it for a mission, I am ready to support. I also always remind my children and grandchildren to use fishing nets and gear according to regulations, not to use toxic substances or explosives to fish, and absolutely not to go to foreign waters to illegally catch seafood,” Mr. Vo Ngoc Thu shared.
Or an example of hard work and love for the sea like Mr. Bui Tan Luong (55 years old, living in Phu Quoc special zone). Mr. Luong is from Dong Thap , came to Phu Quoc to work as a fisherman for fishing boats more than 20 years ago. Because of his hard-working nature and ability to go to sea, he has been attached to the sea. He got married, had children, and started a business on Phu Quoc island. Since then, Mr. Luong considers Phu Quoc as his second home.

Since stabilizing his life, Mr. Luong has contributed his efforts, money, and means, along with the Border Guard, other forces, and local authorities, to build and protect the sovereignty of his homeland's sea and islands. In his fishing logistics work, he often meets with offshore fishing vessels. When things are favorable, Mr. Luong often propagates and disseminates the law to fishermen, ship owners, captains, etc.
Faced with the increasing situation of Vietnamese fishermen violating the waters of other countries to illegally exploit seafood, leading to the European Commission's yellow card warning, Mr. Luong boldly stood up to join hands and contribute his voice to promote propaganda activities with the authorities to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.

Mr. Luong has donated tens of millions of dong to the Border Guard force, printing documents, leaflets, brochures... to promote anti-IUU fishing. As for himself, he bought Uncle Ho's picture and the national flag to give to fishermen, to encourage everyone before going out to sea to fish according to regulations.
These are just 3 of the many responsible fishermen in the Southwest Sea in the fight against IUU fishing. With a love for the sea and a sense of responsibility to the community, over the years, these fishermen have spread the spirit of responsibility for the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands, for the survival of Vietnam's fisheries industry.
With their significant contributions to the work of propagating the law and joining hands to protect marine resources, the actions of Mr. Danh Phu, Mr. Thu and Mr. Luong are actively contributing to the call of the Party and State in calling on fishermen to actively participate in the work of preventing and combating IUU fishing. With such meaningful actions, these fishermen deserve to be awarded many certificates, certificates of merit, and many certificates and titles by leaders, authorities and organizations at all levels for their outstanding achievements in the work of preventing and combating IUU fishing in the Southwest sea of the Fatherland.
