Vietnam attends Global Leadership Summit on Women in Beijing

Speaking at the Conference, President of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Tuyen highlighted Vietnam's commitment to promoting gender equality and women's empowerment in the new era.

According to a VNA reporter in Beijing, the Global Leaders' Conference on Women took place in Beijing on October 13-14 with the theme "A Shared Future: New and Faster Progress for the Comprehensive Development of Women," to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action on Gender Equality (1995).

General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping attended and delivered a speech at the opening session of the Conference.

The conference was attended by leaders of states, governments, and women's organizations from 110 countries around the world . The Vietnamese delegation was led by Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyen, member of the Party Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Women's Union.
In 1995, the Fourth World Conference on Women of the United Nations in Beijing marked a milestone in the global progress for gender equality.

The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action adopted at this conference remain important guiding documents in promoting women's rights worldwide.

This year's conference is held on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Conference, aiming to rekindle the spirit of the 1995 Conference, strengthen commitments and promote actions to implement the Beijing Declaration, the Platform for Action and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations, towards building a community that shares the future of mankind.

Speaking at the Conference, President of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Tuyen shared Vietnam's efforts and achievements in promoting gender equality and women's empowerment.

In recent times, Vietnam has actively implemented its commitments under the Beijing Declaration and international conventions on human rights, achieving many positive results, including improving the gender equality index, raising the proportion of women in the scientific research force to 44%, the proportion of women participating in the STEM field to nearly 40%, the proportion of female National Assembly deputies to 30%, and business owners to more than 28%.

Vietnam is also continuing to develop and implement policies to facilitate women's full participation in economic, political and social life, in which strategies on science, technology, business, education and health all give high priority to women.

In addition, Vietnam has always actively contributed to the international community's common efforts on gender equality. The rate of Vietnamese female officers and soldiers participating in UN peacekeeping missions reached 14.4%, higher than the global average.

Vietnam also participates in and promotes many initiatives at the United Nations and ASEAN on promoting gender equality and women's advancement.

Proposing measures to continue effectively implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, President of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Tuyen emphasized that countries need to make efforts for peace and stability - prerequisites for the development and advancement of women; at the same time, increase exchanges and dialogues to enhance understanding, promote gender equality in line with common goals, respond to rapid changes in the new situation, so that women can increasingly contribute positively to ensuring peace, stability and sustainable development of each country.

Vietnam wishes to further strengthen cooperation to enhance the role of women in economic life, especially strengthening connections between women in science, innovation, and female businesses, creating opportunities for women to become pioneers in new fields.

President of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Tuyen affirmed that Vietnam believes that, with solidarity and determination, the international community will continue to realize the vision of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in the future, towards a world of peace and sustainable development, where all women and girls are respected, protected and empowered for comprehensive development./.
