The event, held on the occasion of Vietnamese Women's Day on October 20, aims to raise awareness of gender equality and promote dialogue on strategies to increase women's participation in leadership roles.
With the message " Overcoming barriers " , the workshop also hopes to inspire women to identify and develop their potential, overcome social prejudices and pursue their passion.
The workshop was attended by G4 Ambassadors, Directors and representatives of the Vietnam Women's Museum, and more than 100 delegates from various fields, including representatives of Vietnamese and international agencies and organizations, and students from universities in Hanoi .
In her opening remarks on behalf of the G4, Ms. Hilde Solbakken, Norwegian Ambassador to Vietnam, affirmed that gender equality is not only a goal, but also a foundation for peace , prosperity and sustainable development. According to the Ambassador, this workshop is a testament to the power of cooperation and a shared commitment to empowering women to lead, innovate and inspire.
“By sharing stories and experiences, we can remove barriers and build a more inclusive society where women's voices are heard and respected,” said Nguyen Thi Tuyet, Director of the Vietnam Women's Museum.
The workshop also brought together four speakers who are outstanding female leaders: Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan Anh, Deputy Director of the Diplomatic Academy; Ms. Nguyen Thuy Duong, Master, Chairman of EY Consulting Vietnam Co., Ltd.; Ms. Dao Ngoc Anh, PhD, Founder and Chairman of Detech Coffee; and Ms. Trang Nguyen, PhD, Founder and Director of WildAct Vietnam.
The speakers shared their journeys of overcoming barriers and gender stereotypes, leading with a clear purpose and inspiring women to rise up. Their stories spanned a wide range of areas – from peace, security, environmental protection to entrepreneurship and social impact – demonstrating the powerful transformational role of female leadership in the new era.
The workshop was also attended and shared by the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Vietnam, Pauline Tamesis, who emphasized the importance of international cooperation as well as the United Nations' commitment to promoting gender equality in Vietnam and globally.
In the discussion session moderated by Swiss Ambassador to Vietnam Thomas Gass, New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam Caroline Beresford; Associate Professor Dr. Bui Thi An, President of the Hanoi Association of Women Intellectuals; and four female speakers exchanged views on important topics such as: Barriers to women's leadership roles, the role of men in promoting gender equality, the difference between the public and private sectors, as well as international experience in this field.
In his closing remarks, Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Jim Nickel emphasized the importance of gender equality in creating a just, prosperous and sustainable society. The Ambassador also reaffirmed the strong commitment of the G4 group of embassies to work with the Government of Vietnam to promote the rights and leadership of women and girls./.
