VNPT and Qualcomm 'join hands' to inaugurate the Research and Innovation Center

On October 14 in Hanoi, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group ( VNPT ) and Qualcomm Group officially launched the VNPT-Qualcomm Center of Excellence (VQEC).

Previously, in August 2025, VNPT and Qualcomm signed a strategic cooperation agreement towards the establishment of the VNPT-Qualcomm Center of Excellence (VQEC). This is the first center in Vietnam capable of accessing and developing global core technology, playing an important role in enhancing Vietnam's position in the international digital technology value chain.

In its development strategy to 2030 with a vision to 2035, VNPT focuses on three pillars, including: One is modern, safe and sustainable digital infrastructure, including 5G/6G networks, cloud computing, data centers and new generation connection platforms. Two is the ecosystem of digital products and services Made in Vietnam, serving the Digital Government, Digital Economy and Digital Society. Finally, core technology owned by Vietnamese people, from artificial intelligence, IoT, edge computing to semiconductor technology.

In particular, VQEC is positioned as a regional research and innovation center, connecting businesses, research institutes, universities and technology startups.

VQEC will focus on developing smart electronic devices, network devices and AI computing devices, contributing to the vision of Vietnam mastering core technology and reaching out to the global value chain.

At the launching ceremony of VQEC, VNPT General Director Huynh Quang Liem said that VQEC has a special significance in opening up a new space for developing 5G/6G digital infrastructure, cloud, data center, from which, there will be products serving the make-in-Vietnam ecosystem. This is also the core of national innovation, connecting businesses-schools-research institutes-technology startups in the VQEC ecosystem.

"The establishment of the VNPT - Qualcomm Center of Excellence (VQEC) marks a strategic turning point in VNPT's transformation journey to become Vietnam's pioneering technology corporation (Techco). The center will be a place where Vietnamese intelligence and global knowledge converge, where VNPT and Qualcomm engineers together create smart electronic devices, network devices and AI computing, contributing to affirming the ability to master core technology and bring Make in Vietnam products to the international level," Mr. Liem emphasized.

As the core technology unit of VNPT Group in the field of industrial technology, VNPT Technology is responsible for building and operating the VQEC Center, aiming to become Qualcomm's Authorized Design Center in Vietnam.

Previously at the National Innovation Day 2025, Mr. Thieu Phuong Nam - General Director of Qualcomm Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos said that the group has been present in Vietnam for more than 20 years and considers this an important base. In June 2024, Qualcomm opened an R&D center in Hanoi, one of the group's major centers globally. The entire engineering team here is Vietnamese, participating in the most advanced projects, with products applied not only domestically but also in many other countries.
