Mr. Nguyen Khac Lich, Director of the Department of Information Technology chaired the discussion session at the Workshop.
The workshop gathered the participation of many leading organizations and enterprises of the two countries such as: NIPA, Amkor Technology, FPT Semiconductor, CMC , etc. The event is considered an important cooperation forum for the parties to directly exchange and share experiences, analyze potentials, and update and discuss policies and incentive mechanisms that the Vietnamese Government is implementing for these two strategic areas.
Mr. Kim Deukjung, Vice President of NIPA delivered the opening speech at the Workshop.
The semiconductor industry is considered the core foundation of high-tech industries, while AI is a spearhead field with outstanding growth rate and profound impact on all aspects of economic and social life. In recent times, Vietnam has issued many important policies, creating a favorable legal corridor for investment and development of high-tech products, especially in these two strategic areas.
With a stable political -economic environment and increasingly enhanced international reputation, Vietnam is becoming an attractive destination for many of the world's leading technology corporations such as Samsung, Amkor Technology Inc, Hana Micron (Korea), Intel, Synopsys (USA), Renesas Electronics (Japan), USI Electronic (Taiwan)... The capital flow and investment interest of these corporations not only contribute to the formation of the semiconductor supply chain in Vietnam but also open up the prospect of a close connection between chip production and AI applications, creating high added value for the economy.
Vietnam is simultaneously developing the semiconductor industry and artificial intelligence with the goal of building a comprehensive digital technology ecosystem, thereby enhancing national competitiveness in the new era.
Mr. Nguyen Vinh Quang, Director of FPT Semiconductor, presented "The trend of shifting global semiconductor supply chains and opportunities for Vietnam".
At the workshop, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony took place between the Department of Information and Communications Technology and the Korea Chip Design Industry Association (KFIA - Korea Fabless Industry Association) on semiconductor industry development.
Mr. Nguyen Khac Lich, Director of the Department of Information Technology, and Mr. Wang Sung Ho, Vice President of the Korea Chip Design Industry Association signed the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation.
KFIA is the leading organization representing and supporting semiconductor design enterprises in Korea, with the mission to promote the development of system semiconductor design, intellectual property and related technologies; facilitate cooperation among members, provide a platform for innovation and training; thereby enhancing the competitiveness of the Korean semiconductor design ecosystem.
The two sides agreed to cooperate in policy consultation and support; human resource development; technology transfer; research and development (R&D) cooperation; information exchange and semiconductor ecosystem development. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Department of Information Technology Industry and KFIA is an important step forward in the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Korea. At the same time, this will be the starting point for many joint projects and initiatives between businesses of the two countries in the future, bringing practical benefits to both sides and to the overall development of the semiconductor industry.
