JICA Project 3 has a total investment capital of over 7,500 billion VND, of which Japanese ODA loan is over 4,100 billion VND. The project includes 8 saltwater prevention sluices, a pumping station and related canal system.
Up to now, 6/8 items have completed site handover; Ben Ro and Tan Phu sluices have been put into use, effectively preventing salinity and storing fresh water.
However, the two sluices of Vam Nuoc Trong and Vam Thom are still stuck in site clearance. Vam Thom sluice needs to reclaim 28,000 m² of land, affecting 44 households and 1 organization; Vam Nuoc Trong sluice needs to reclaim more than 22,400 m² of land, involving 32 households.
According to the Provincial Agricultural Project Management Board, the progress is slow due to the need to adjust the total investment, change compensation appraisal procedures, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the merger of administrative boundaries.
Vice Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Quynh Thien requested departments and branches to coordinate with localities, complete compensation procedures, support resettlement, and strive to hand over the site in November.
The Vice Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee emphasized that the handover of the site directly determines the success of the project, ensuring that the project soon takes effect in preventing salinity, storing fresh water, serving production and people's lives.
