A leaking dike threatens about 220 hectares of rice fields of local people.
At noon on October 20, a section of the dike in Xom Moi hamlet, Vinh Chau commune showed signs of water leakage, with a risk of landslides. If not repaired promptly, the dike could break, damaging about 220 hectares of rice in the area.
Faced with the above situation, Vinh Chau commune mobilized machinery, along with dozens of officers, militia soldiers, union members, and youths, coordinating with people present in this vulnerable area to reinforce, fill in leaks, build earth bags, and patch the dike body to prevent water from overflowing into rice fields, and protect the safety of people's rice production areas.
Local authorities mobilized rescue forces to protect rice.
According to information from the People's Committee of Vinh Chau commune, the commune currently has nearly 6,600 hectares of 20-40-day-old Autumn-Winter rice crop in 2025, and more than 1,300 hectares of 10-15-day-old Winter-Spring rice crop in 2025-2026.
Most of the dikes in the commune have overflow sections, which farmers have reinforced themselves, basically ensuring a height of 20-40cm. If the water level continues to rise rapidly, many rice fields are likely to be affected.
Currently, the authorities and people of Vinh Chau commune are focusing on monitoring the developments of rain and flood situations to take response measures when incidents occur, minimizing damage./.
