The People's Committee of Uong Bi City ( Quang Ninh Province) has issued a decision to administratively sanction Mr. Vu Minh Hieu - Dharma name is Venerable Thich Truc Thai Minh, abbot of Ba Vang Pagoda.
On the afternoon of January 26, according to information from the People's Committee of Uong Bi City, the local government has decided to fine the abbot of Ba Vang Pagoda, Thich Truc Thai Minh, for displaying and worshipping (displaying and exhibiting) artifacts (objects called "Buddha's hair relics") without sending a notice to the competent authority as prescribed, with a fine of 7.5 million VND.
According to information from the local government, from January 2 to 26, the provincial departments, agencies, and functional branches and the People's Committee of Uong Bi City verified and clarified compliance with current legal regulations regarding Ba Vang Pagoda's organization of the display (exhibition) of an object believed to be "Buddha's hair relic" at the pagoda and organized widespread communication on the Ba Vang Pagoda's website.
Through inspection, the authorities of Quang Ninh province affirmed that the above incident violated the provisions of the State law on the notification of the list of additional religious activities; regulations on religious activities, international religious relations activities of foreign organizations and individuals in Vietnam; participation in religious activities abroad; failure to notify the competent state agency about the organization of display and exhibition of artifacts (objects said to be "Buddha's hair relics"), and failure to send notification to the competent authority as prescribed...
At the same time, the Department of Home Affairs of Quang Ninh province also issued a document requesting departments, branches, sectors, People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to continue to strengthen State management, promptly detect and strictly handle violations of the law and regulations; ensure strict discipline, order and awareness of law compliance in the province.
