Agricultural, forestry and fishery exports in 9 months reached 52.31 billion USD
At the regular press conference on October 6, Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Finance ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ) Tran Gia Long said that according to data from the General Statistics Office, the country's GDP growth in the third quarter reached 8.22%, of which the agricultural sector increased by 3.74%. In the first 9 months, the country's GDP increased by 7.84%, the agricultural sector increased by 3.83%, which is a good growth rate in the context of natural disasters, epidemics and market fluctuations.

Of which, the export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery products in the past 9 months reached 52.31 billion USD, up 15.5% over the same period; September alone reached 6.35 billion USD, up 18.1%. The agricultural trade balance had a surplus of 15.93 billion USD, up 17.6% over the same period, contributing about 92.8% of the total trade surplus of the whole economy .
Notably, there are 5 groups of goods with export turnover of over 3 billion USD including: coffee (6.98 billion USD), vegetables and fruits (6.22 billion USD), cashew nuts (3.75 billion USD), rice (3.55 billion USD), shrimp (3.36 billion USD) and wood (8.42 billion USD). Many items recorded strong export price increases such as coffee up 45.3%, pepper up 37.4%, cashew nuts up 17.5%, rubber up 10.9%.
Export markets were expanded and restructured effectively. Export turnover to the Americas increased by 11.4%, Europe by 40.6%, Africa by 91.6%, Oceania by 6.5%, and Asia by 4.1%. The United States remained the largest market, accounting for 20.6% of total turnover and increasing by 9%; China accounted for 20%, increasing by 5.9%; Japan by 7.1%, and South Korea by 23.9%.
According to Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien, if the remaining months of 2025 export reaches 5 billion USD, then the export of agricultural and forestry products in 2025 will reach 67 billion USD - a new record. If the export reaches 6 billion USD per month like last September, this record will be higher, with over 70 billion USD.
He also said that the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is closely coordinating with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and localities to expand markets and promote official exports, especially to China, Europe and countries in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership - CPTPP. At the same time, trade promotion programs and negotiations to open new markets for fruits, seafood and deeply processed products will also be promoted in the fourth quarter.
Proactively respond to natural disasters
Also at the press conference, Deputy Director of the Department of Hydrometeorology Hoang Duc Cuong said that in the first 9 months of the year, natural disasters have been complicated and increasingly extreme, especially in the Northern, North Central and Central Central regions.
To date, 14 storms and tropical depressions have been recorded in the East Sea - higher than the average of many years. The whole country has experienced 14 widespread heavy rains, many of which were unseasonal and extreme, causing serious flooding. Storms No. 5 and No. 10 created a rare combination of natural disasters in just one month, causing widespread flooding, flash floods and landslides from coastal to mountainous areas, including severe flooding in Hanoi in late August and September.
Mr. Cuong forecasts that from now until the end of the year, the ENSO phenomenon - an abbreviation of the words El Nino Southern Oscillation to refer to both El Nino and La Nina phenomena - will maintain a neutral state with a cold tilt, and storms and tropical depressions in the East Sea will continue to be more frequent than average. The Central region will be the focus of heavy rain and flooding, with the risk of late flooding, urban flooding and landslides continuing to increase.
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection Nguyen Quang Hieu, storms and floods have affected 96,400 hectares of crop areas in the North and North Central regions; including 40,400 hectares of rice, 23,100 hectares of vegetables... Statistics from the Department of Dykes and Natural Disaster Prevention show that, so far, natural disasters have caused more than 33,000 billion VND in damage.
Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien emphasized that from now until the end of the year, localities need to speed up the disbursement of public investment, striving to achieve 95-100% of the plan to consolidate and complete key disaster prevention works.
