Down to Phu Yen

HeritageHeritage28/02/2024

We headed south, crossing the Ca Pass, one of the most dangerous passes in the Central region, to reach the pristine Phu Yen in the cool weather of the first days of the year. Spring travel on the land of "yellow flowers and green grass", first of all, we must mention the majestic Da Dia reef that nature generously bestowed upon Phu Yen. The main structure here is basalt formed 200 million years ago, created by volcanic activity in the Van Hoa plateau. When the lava flows meet the cold water, it freezes, then cracks in many directions, creating strangely beautiful stone slabs, one layer on top of another, mysteriously. Not only that, because of its location close to the coast, the water waves accumulate day and night, the misty mist in the dawn makes the rocky cliffs more unique and sparkling, worthy of being a wonder recognized as a National Scenic Monument in 1998. Nature is so favorable, and man-made wonders have given the land of Nau another wonder - Nhan Tower bearing the Cham Pa cultural mark in the heart of Tuy Hoa city. According to legend, the birth of Nhan Tower originated from the story of the fairy Thien YA Na descending to earth to teach the local people to plow, weave, and spin for a living. After she returned to the fairyland, the Cham Pa people built a tower to worship her. The tower has a quadrilateral shape, 25m high with 4 floors, on top of the tower is a stone Linga statue - the spiritual symbol of the Cham people wishing for all things to always grow and flourish. The base of the tower is a square base covered with sandstone, the tower body is vertical and massive, creating a feeling of solidity. In addition to the very unique structure, the materials that the ancient Cham people used to build the tower make people even more surprised and amazed. Nhan Tower is built entirely of tightly packed baked bricks. This type of brick is lighter but more durable than regular bricks. The bricks are attached together with a very sticky natural tree glue, without any gaps, ensuring that the thousand-year-old tower will stand firm over time. Because of its appeal, tourists have long passed on to each other: "Phu Yen has Cu Mong peak, Nhan tower, and Ba river". This place is very suitable to visit on the Nguyen Tieu poetry night on the full moon day of the first lunar month or the Via Ba festival in the third lunar month. And finally, in the Phu Yen travel guide there is another place worth visiting: O Loan lagoon, together with two other places, Tam Giang lagoon (Hue) and Thi Nai lagoon (Binh Dinh) make up the three most beautiful lagoons in coastal Vietnam. O Loan is the largest seafood farm in Phu Yen province with famous dishes such as O Loan blood cockles, tuna eyes, or Huynh De crab. Looking down from above, the lagoon has the shape of a swan spreading its wings, surrounded by prosperous villages and low green mountains, creating a beautiful, simple yet charming scene. The lagoon is famous for its magical and poetic tranquility at sunset. Every year, on the 7th day of the first lunar month, people around the lagoon hold a Cau Ngu ceremony to pray for a peaceful new year, smooth sailing and organize a vibrant boat racing festival to revive the cultural beauty of the Tuy An river region.
