60 years of keeping the oath to the Party

Before me was an 88-year-old woman with silver-white hair and a gentle smile. She recounted old stories chronologically in a clear, articulate voice, surprising me with her rare clarity. She shared that, although she was exempted from Party activities, she still participated regularly because, for her, being alive and being able to move meant making contributions. That was Mrs. Vu Thi Dao, a 60-year Party member, in Vang hamlet, Trang Xa commune.

Her simple, plain yet captivating words captivated me, making me captivated and engrossed in listening to Mrs. Vu Thi Dao's story. 60 years in the Party's ranks were also the same number of years she kept her oath, her faith and love for the Party intact.

Born into a poor family in Trang Xa commune, Ms. Vu Thi Dao soon experienced the loss of her country and her family. At the age of 16, she volunteered to serve as a medical worker in the frontline labor groups, participated in filling bomb craters, and opened roads in the old Vo Nhai district during the resistance war against the French colonialists, and then continued to contribute to the resistance war against the Americans to save the country. To complete her duties well, she took the initiative to take professional classes and became a nurse.

Mrs. Dao said, her voice still choked with emotion: Those days were very difficult. Medicine was scarce, the jungle roads were dangerous, bombs were always lurking… but none of us were discouraged. Just thinking about our compatriots and our Fatherland gave us the strength to continue to contribute.

During the years of resistance, Ms. Dao was not only a devoted nurse but also a loyal soldier on the front line. With her tireless and persistent contributions, she was awarded many noble awards such as: Second Class Anti-American Resistance Medal, Medal for the Cause of Women's Liberation, and many certificates of merit from various levels, sectors and organizations.

60 years ago, Ms. Vu Thi Dao was officially admitted to the Party. The moment she stood under the Party flag, raising her hand to swear allegiance to the ideals of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh's thought, she still remembers clearly: I promised myself that as a Party member, I must be a pioneer and an exemplary person, whether in war or peace .

For the past 60 years, Ms. Dao has always kept that oath. When the country entered peacetime, she continued to devote herself to her homeland, actively participating in all local activities. From the movement to mobilize people to donate land to open roads, build new rural areas to contributing to funds such as: For the poor, education promotion, gratitude..., she has always been an exemplary leader.

Despite her advanced age, Mrs. Dao still regularly participates in Party cell meetings. She said: As long as you are healthy and clear-headed, you must be present. Even if you have no opinion, you must still come to listen to your children and grandchildren discuss village affairs, Party and government building. You are a Party member, you cannot be indifferent.

Mrs. Dao’s life is also a journey of many losses and sacrifices. Of her four children, two have passed away. Her husband, a doctor and a 55-year Party member, passed away many years ago. Only two children live with her, one of whom is a daughter who is a doctor and also an exemplary Party member.

The pain of loss has never subsided, but she remains optimistic. The small house in Vang hamlet, Trang Xa commune, is always filled with laughter and conversation. She said: If we are sad, our children and grandchildren will be sad too. We must live a worthy life, a life that the next generation can follow.

Mrs. Dao is always respected by her neighbors, not only because of her revolutionary activities, but also because of her harmonious and exemplary lifestyle. In local movements, she is always a pioneer. From donating land to build rural concrete roads, to contributing working days to build the village cultural house, she is always present.

Not only is she a shining example for the generation of party members, Ms. Dao is also an inspiration for the younger generation to live positively and patriotically. Through simple but truthful stories about her youth and the years of resistance war to save the country, she helps the younger generation better understand the value of independence and peace.

She said: You children are so happy now. But you also have to know how to appreciate and preserve what your ancestors left you. Know how to live for the community, for the country, and contribute to building your homeland.

When asked about her biggest wish at the age of 88, she just smiled gently: I just hope to be healthy and clear-headed for a few more years so I can continue participating in Party activities. Seeing my homeland change, my children and grandchildren grow up, and the people live in peace and prosperity is enough.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of life today, Ms. Dao is still like a persistent flame burning brightly, spreading positive energy, noble personality and revolutionary spirit to the next generations.
