85 billion VND to help Kien Giang students not have to drop out of school

On September 13, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province held a conference to announce the establishment of the Kien Giang Provincial Scholarship Fund to care for and support students in difficult circumstances.

The Kien Giang Province Education Promotion Fund has mobilized businesses, banks, localities, and philanthropists inside and outside the province to contribute 85 billion VND to support disadvantaged students from Kien Giang Province, helping them have the conditions to study and not have to drop out of school.

In the first phase of 2024, 23 students with difficult circumstances studying at Kien Giang University and Can Tho University received support for study expenses for the first semester of the 2024-2025 school year, including tuition and living expenses (each scholarship ranges from 7 to 22 million VND) from the Kien Giang Provincial Scholarship Fund.

Mr. Nguyen Luu Trung - Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee - said that currently, Kien Giang has about 16,300 students studying at universities and colleges inside and outside the province. Of which, about 9,000 students are studying in the province and more than 7,200 students are studying in Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, An Giang , Vinh Long, Dong Thap.

Many students are in very difficult circumstances and cannot afford to pay for their studies. From the 2022-2023 school year up to now, students in difficult circumstances who have to work part-time to pay for their studies account for 25-30%; 6-10% of the total number of students each school year have to drop out of school due to difficult conditions.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized that the Kien Giang Province Education Promotion Fund was established, in addition to its humanitarian goals, to promote the lifelong learning movement, improve the quality of education and train high-quality human resources for Kien Giang Province. The Fund also has great social significance, demonstrating the combination, sharing, and consensus between the State, businesses, and people in the work of promoting education, promoting talents, and caring for the young generation, contributing to the cause of developing education and training in the province.
