3 male Korean tourists experienced 7 typical Hue cakes at the same time such as banh beo, bot loc, ram it... They kept nodding and praising how delicious it was.
Three Korean boys Jongrak, Sungrak and Dongrin To be Owner of the YouTube channel HanQuocBros with over 1 million followers. They regularly share videos about Vietnamese life and cuisine with a humorous and interesting perspective.
Not long ago, three young men visited Hue. In addition to visiting famous places such as Hue Imperial City, Dong Ba Market, etc., they also spent time experiencing local cuisine , enjoying many typical delicacies, including cakes.
They went to a famous restaurant on Nguyen Binh Khiem Street to enjoy Hue cakes. Following the staff's recommendation, they ordered a combo of 7 types of cakes, priced at 330,000 VND including banh beo, banh bot loc, banh uot cha tom, banh nam, ram it, nem lui, cha tom.
The cakes are served one after another, each with a dipping sauce.
Banh bot loc has an outer layer made of tapioca starch, with shrimp and braised meat filling inside. The clear, soft, chewy dough layer has a faint scent of dong/banana leaves wrapped on the outside.
Banh beo chen is made from pure rice flour, poured into small cups, steamed. On top of the cake is crispy fried pork rinds, shrimp floss, and a little fatty fried onion fat.
The Korean guests enjoyed the food and nodded in praise. Jongrak said the dipping sauce served with the cake here was better than the Hue food restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City. They even imagined that fried chicken dipped in these fish sauces would also be delicious.
While banh beo cannot be complete without a dipping sauce made from fish sauce, sugar, garlic, and chili, which is quite sweet and spicy according to Hue people's taste, nem lui is served with a thick, yellow dipping sauce made from crushed peanuts.
Trying spring rolls with sliced sour star fruit, pickled radish and carrots, some raw vegetables and dipping them in the sauce, guests exclaimed: "So delicious" and nodded continuously.
When asking each other about the best dish, the three boys struggled because it was difficult to find the correct answer. They felt that "when eating banh loc, banh loc is the best, when eating ram giu, ram giu is the best, when eating nem lui, nem lui is the best...".
After eating Hue cakes, the three boys thought "If I go back to Korea and crave it, I'll probably cry." They also came up with the idea of exporting Hue specialties to Korea.
At the end of 2024, the famous culinary website Taste Atlas announced the results of the Taste Atlas Awards 2024-2025 on the list of 100 cities with the best cuisine in the world.
