One of the Hanoi dishes that Brinkkty and his group of friends found most impressive was banh cuon. They enjoyed this dish at a local restaurant located on the slope of Hoe Nhai Street (Ba Dinh District).

“We accidentally found out about this banh cuon shop while walking to a nearby shopping store,” said a Thai female tourist.

At the restaurant, Brinkkty's group ordered 3 servings of rice rolls with meat filling, 1 serving of rice rolls with soft-boiled egg and 1 more plate of Chinese sausage.

When the hot food was served, the members commented that the rice rolls looked attractive, were served with a delicious dipping sauce and herbs.

When tasting, everyone was surprised by the delicious taste of the capital's rice rolls, continuously exclaiming to show their delight.

Brinkkty also picked up a large piece, dipped it in fish sauce, and put it in her mouth to enjoy. "So delicious," the Thai female tourist nodded in approval as she ate.

It is known that the banh cuon restaurant that Brinkkty and his group of friends visited has been open for more than 30 years. In 2023, the restaurant was honored in the list of restaurants recommended by Michelin in Hanoi.

Ms. Bui Thi Kim Lan - the restaurant representative said that she and her three sisters are currently taking over and maintaining the family's traditional food business.

“I am the third generation to make and sell banh cuon. The family recipe for this dish has been kept intact until now. In recent years, my family has also sold egg banh cuon to serve the diverse tastes of diners,” Ms. Lan shared.

The banh cuon restaurant that Brinkkty and his group of friends visited has been a familiar dining address for many Hanoi diners for many years.

According to Ms. Lan, to make delicious rice rolls, the restaurant selects ground rice from Cao Bang.

What is special is that the restaurant uses a decades-old stone mill to grind the flour instead of using an industrial mill like many other places. This method helps the flour to be ground smoother and more fragrant, and the steamed rice rolls are also thin, soft, and a bit chewy.

“Grinding flour with a stone mortar takes a lot of time and effort, but in return, it ensures the desired fineness of the flour. This creates a soft, thin layer of rice paper that is not crumbly and has the flavor and characteristics of my family,” said Ms. Lan.

The restaurant serves rice rolls with fatty pork sausage and cinnamon pork sausage. The crispy fried onions are homemade and very fragrant.

In addition to the familiar minced meat and wood ear mushroom filling, the restaurant is also famous for its egg rolls. The eggs are steamed about 70% cooked, when eaten, diners only need to roll them lightly to see the yolk flow out, rich and fatty but not fishy.
