Apple adds 5G connectivity and blood pressure sensor to 3 new Watch models

The new generation of Apple Watch is launched with brighter screens, satellite connectivity and improved health sensors.

At the Awe Dropping event that took place in the early morning of September 10 (Vietnam time), Apple officially launched three new smartwatch models: Apple Watch SE 3, Series 11 and Ultra 3. These products mainly focus on improving 5G connectivity, improving display and expanding health monitoring capabilities.

The Apple Watch SE 3 is the most economical of the three models announced by Apple. The device is equipped with an improved S10 chip, supports Always-On display for the first time on the SE line as well as fast charging, allowing for an additional 8 hours of use after just 15 minutes of charging. Battery life is maintained at about 18 hours. Ion-X glass is used and has increased durability and better scratch resistance than the previous generation.

The SE 3 also adds gesture controls like double-tap and wrist rotation, built-in wrist temperature sensor, Sleep Score, sleep apnea detection, and ovulation estimation. These features are meant to assist, not replace, medical diagnosis. The device also supports 5G connectivity for improved data transmission speeds.

The Apple Watch Series 11 is touted as a significant upgrade in health tracking. It is the thinnest Apple watch ever, and features a blood pressure alert feature that analyzes heart rate data and tracks it continuously for 30 days to detect signs of high blood pressure. The Sleep Score feature also helps evaluate sleep quality based on stability, duration, and number of awakenings. The battery is extended to 24 hours of use, supporting fast charging similar to the SE 3 model. The Ion-X glass on the Series 11 is reinforced, increasing scratch resistance thanks to a special ceramic coating.

The device also enables 5G connectivity with redesigned antennas for improved connection stability. The Series 11 comes in basic color options and titanium case versions.

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is a premium model, aimed at users who love outdoor activities and exploring terrain. Most notably, the two-way satellite connection feature allows sending messages, sharing location and making emergency calls when there is no mobile signal or Wi-Fi. The screen uses wide-angle LTPO3 OLED technology, is larger, brighter and has 24% thinner bezels than before, helping to improve the display experience.

Battery life is 42 hours under normal use and can be extended to 72 hours in power saving mode. Similar to the Series 11, the Ultra 3 also features hypertension warning and Sleep Score, along with 5G connectivity. The case is made from recycled titanium, a durable design suitable for harsh environmental conditions.

All three watch models are available for pre-order and are expected to ship from September 19. The starting price in the US market is 249 USD for SE 3, 399 USD for Series 11 and 799 USD for Ultra 3. Apple has not announced a specific release date in Vietnam, but it is expected that authorized distributors will update in October.
