Apple just launched a series of new devices on the evening of October 15 (Vietnam time) including MacBook Pro, iPad Pro and Vision Pro. The biggest upgrade on the devices comes from the M5 chip, improving the ability to process AI tasks and graphics.
While the MacBook Pro M5 focuses on performance upgrades, Apple decided to bring the N1 chip and C1X modem to the iPad Pro M5, proving its efficiency and stability after first equipping it on the iPhone Air.
M5 chip focuses on upgrading AI and graphics
The M5 chip is manufactured on the third-generation 3nm process. The graphics processing unit (GPU) is improved with 10 cores, each core equipped with a Neural Accelerator. This improvement helps increase AI performance up to 4 times compared to the M4 chip, and 6 times compared to the M1.
According to Apple, M5 users will experience significantly faster AI tasks, such as running image generation models in apps like Draw Things, or running large language models (LLM) in apps like LM Studio.
The M5's graphics performance is up to 30% faster than the M4, and 2.5 times faster than the M1. The chip also features third-generation ray tracing, a combination of technologies that enhance gaming experiences, 3D image design, and reduce graphics rendering times.

The 16-core Neural Engine on the M5 has also been upgraded, helping to speed up some generative AI tools like Image Playground. The overall speed of Apple Intelligence is also faster thanks to a memory bandwidth of 153 GB/s, 30% higher than the M4 (120 GB/s).
According to Apple, the improved memory bandwidth enhances the experience on creative applications, multitasking with both MacBook Pro and iPad Pro. The company does not forget to emphasize the energy saving ability of M5, optimizing power consumption throughout the product life cycle.
MacBook Pro M5 has the fastest "CPU core"
The M5 chip is also the biggest improvement on the 14-inch MacBook Pro. According to Apple, the machine's AI processing performance is increased by up to 3.5 times, and graphics performance is increased by up to 1.6 times compared to its predecessor.
On the 14-inch MacBook Pro, the M5 chip also accelerates some heavy-duty tasks like deep learning, data modeling, and AI video enhancement. In terms of graphics, the maximum frame rate when playing games on the M5 is 1.6 times higher than the M4.
The M5 also features 10 CPU cores. Apple calls it the “ world’s fastest CPU core”, delivering up to 20% higher performance (compared to the M4 chip) in multi-threaded tasks such as code compilation, multitasking, etc.

“The 14-inch MacBook Pro is suitable for data analysts, performing database queries in Python, and professionals like product designers who frequently multitask on apps like Rhino, Notion, and Jira.
With more than 150 GB/s of unified memory bandwidth, users can work with large AI models on device or manipulate massive 3D scenes in graphics applications,” Apple's announcement shared.
For comparison, AI video enhancement in Topaz Video on the MacBook Pro M5 is up to 1.8x faster than the M4. Meanwhile, Xcode compilation performance is up to 1.2x faster than the M4, and up to 2.1x faster than the 13-inch MacBook Pro M1.
The SSD storage on the MacBook Pro M5 is twice as fast as the previous generation, allowing for faster AI model retrieval and execution. Users can choose up to 4TB of storage, double the previous generation.

The MacBook Pro M5 maintains a maximum battery life of 24 hours compared to its predecessor, supporting fast charging to 50% in 30 minutes when using the appropriate charger. The company emphasizes that performance and battery life are worthy improvements for users upgrading from the M1 or Intel version.
The remaining parameters on the MacBook Pro M5 remain unchanged with a 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display, 120 Hz refresh rate, 1,600 nit maximum HDR brightness, 12 MP webcam (supports Center Stage) and Apple Intelligence toolset.
In Vietnam, the MacBook Pro 14 inch M5 starts at 42 million VND for the 16 GB RAM, 512 GB storage version. Color options remain the same, including black and silver.
Note that this is the base MacBook Pro M5 version with a 14-inch screen. Options like M5 Pro or M5 Max are expected to launch in early 2026. The company has not announced information about the 16-inch MacBook Pro.
N1 and C1X chips are brought to iPad Pro
Similar to the MacBook Pro, Apple emphasizes the M5's AI processing capabilities on the iPad Pro. The company claims the device has "industry-leading performance."
On iPad Pro M5, AI task processing speed is improved up to 3.5 times compared to M4, and 5.6 times compared to M1. Neural Engine with 16 cores helps save energy when processing AI tasks, improving speed on Apple Intelligence.
The M5 chip's 10-core CPU includes four high-performance cores and six energy-efficient cores. According to Apple, the M5's performance is suitable for many users such as graphic designers, architects or businesses that need to access and process data quickly. Note that the 256 GB and 512 GB versions of the iPad Pro M5 only have a 9-core CPU.

In apps like Final Cut Pro, video decoding performance on the iPad Pro M5 is about 1.2 times faster than the M4 and 6 times faster than the M1. AI image creation performance in Draw Things is 2 times faster than the M4 and 4 times faster than the M1.
With a memory bandwidth of 153 GB/s, multitasking, AI processing and gaming on the iPad Pro M5 are also smoother. In terms of RAM capacity, the 256 GB and 512 GB versions now have 12 GB, 50% higher than the previous generation. The device also supports fast charging of 50% battery in 30 minutes when using the appropriate charger.
The next highlight on the iPad Pro M5 comes from the N1 chip and C1X modem developed by Apple. First appearing on the iPhone Air, the C1X provides twice the mobile network speed and saves about 30% of energy compared to the iPad Pro M4.
Thanks to the N1 chip, the iPad Pro M5 supports new connectivity standards such as Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. According to Apple, this chip also improves stability on features such as mobile Wi-Fi hotspot and AirDrop.

iPad Pro M5 still retains 2 screen options 11 inch (5.3 mm thin) and 13 inch (5.1 mm thin), OLED panel with 120 Hz refresh rate, nano coating option and maximum HDR brightness of 1,600 nits.
The device also supports external displays up to 120 Hz. Compatible accessories with the iPad Pro M5 remain unchanged, including the Apple Pencil Pro, Pencil USB-C, Magic Keyboard (now available in black), and Smart Folio covers.
In Vietnam, the iPad Pro M5 starts at VND30 million for the 11-inch version, and VND40 million for the 13-inch model. Color options include silver and black.
Apple also upgraded the M5 chip for Vision Pro glasses, the screen supports 120 Hz refresh rate. The new version has an additional Dual Knit Band strap, including straps that wrap around the back and top of the head. The product has a starting price of 3,500 USD , memory options include 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB.
