Apple asks US judge to dismiss antitrust lawsuit

The US Justice Department , 19 states and the District of Columbia, accused Apple of maintaining a monopoly by imposing contractual restrictions and preventing developers from accessing important technologies.

In a motion filed in federal court in Newark, New Jersey, Apple argued that placing “reasonable limits” on third-party developers’ access to its technology does not amount to anti-competitive behavior. The company argued that its rules and conditions are necessary to ensure the security and performance of its products.

The lawsuit focuses on Apple’s App Store, where developers must comply with strict rules and pay Apple high commissions for app sales. The government argues that these restrictions reduce competition and raise prices for consumers. The lawsuit also accuses Apple of using its power to suppress potential competitors and maintain control of the market.

Judge Julien Neals, who is overseeing the case, will receive responses from the government and answers from Apple before deciding on the motion later this year.
