Blockbuster "Snow White" has not been able to dethrone "The Devil" at the Vietnamese box office. Although it ranked second on the chart, the film's revenue was much lower than expected, signaling a major failure for Disney.
Contrary to expectations, Snow White (Vietnamese title: She Snow White ) is not strong enough to overthrow horror movie Possessed . Although it ranked second on the chart of Box Office Vietnam (independent box office monitor), the film had very low revenue, far below the distributor's expectations.
The top spot at the box office remains unchanged, still a horror film Possessed - starring Quang Tuan and Kha Nhu. But according to statistics, the film's revenue continued to decrease compared to last week.
Snow White became a "flop"
During the three-day weekend, Possessed grossed 11.4 billion VND with over 129,000 tickets sold in over 5,500 screenings. This figure decreased 58% compared to last week (26.8 billion VND) but still helped the project surpass the revenue mark of 139 billion VND, becoming the most popular Vietnamese horror film of all time.
Despite its box office success, the film’s quality remains controversial. The script is familiar and the storytelling is not concise. Some segments feel rambling, and many scenes are redundant, making the running time long (121 minutes).
The film's twist is not strong enough. Despite the investment in setting and horror atmosphere, the film still lacks the necessary breakthrough and climax to leave an impression on the audience.
In second place is Snow White with 5.6 billion VND. This number is too low compared to a blockbuster project, heavily advertised and with an investment capital of up to 270 million USD (not including marketing costs).
Disney's latest live-action remake has made many changes to refresh the story of the famous Snow White princess. However, the choice of Rachel Zegler for the role of Snow White or Gal Gadot as the evil queen has caused fierce controversy and not been well received by the audience.
The “Mouse House” project is facing the possibility of loss, constantly criticized for its weak content. Up to now, the film has only earned over 87 million USD worldwide.
Most reviews said the script lacked depth, with many details changed, making the plot lose the appeal of the original. CGI effects were considered overused, especially the fact that the crew did not use real actors to play the seven dwarfs, which upset many viewers.
Korean movies Extremely funny assassin dropped one rank, falling to third place with 3.8 billion VND. After many weeks in Vietnamese theaters, this Korean comedy did not have explosive revenue but still sold tickets, proving its great appeal.
Previously, the film had stirred up the domestic box office in January and currently holds the record as the highest-grossing Korean film in 2025 with over 16 million USD.
Movies with Phuong My Chi drop in rating
The remaining two positions in the top 5 of Box Office Vietnam respectively: Korean movies Super hard job to say (3.2 billion) and blockbuster Sinkholes (2.6 billion).
Super hard job to say marks the return of Choi Si Won – leader of Super Junior – after four years of absence from the silver screen. However, the opening project was not too explosive because it was not widely promoted and competed with many strong opponents.
Sinkholes was released in Vietnamese theaters in 2014. The film's revenue was mainly due to being re-screened in IMAX format, so ticket prices were higher than average. But after three weeks, the work still sold tickets, proving the influence of director Christopher Nolan on audiences in our country.
In its fifth week in theaters, Ancestral home continue to fall in rank, unable to stay in the top 5 Box Office Vietnam which fell to sixth place with just over 2.4 billion VND at the weekend, down more than 50% compared to last week (5 billion VND).
At the current pace, Huynh Lap’s project is unlikely to surpass the expected revenue milestone of 250 billion VND. It is likely that the work will be withdrawn from theaters in the near future.
The most regrettable is the documentary Vietnamese Concert Film: We are Vietnamese by Hoang Thuy Linh, had to withdraw from theaters due to sluggish sales, failing to attract the attention of the audience.
Despite its beautiful visuals, the work has not left an impression because the content is simple and lacks surprises. Many details are still arranged. The artist portrait of the main character is also build superficial, somewhat reducing the viewer's emotional flow.
In addition, many foreign films also fail to attract audiences. For example, Mickey 17 by veteran Korean director Bong Joon Ho failed to make it into the top 10 of the weekend chart. The film only earned over 580 million VND with a modest number of tickets.
Hong Kong movies Love for money, crazy for love good Korean movies The Girl We Chased Together That Year also did not attract customers, weekend revenue was less than one billion VND. Two Hollywood movies The Monkey: Echoes of Horror and I'm not hurt also suffered the same fate, both were sluggish at Vietnamese theaters.
This week, another Vietnamese horror film will be released in theaters. The Yin and Yang Road , before March ends. The project is directed by Hoang Tuan Cuong - the director who worked on Lights on, Dead child, House not for sale …
The appearance of Yin and Yang Road promises to change the box office landscape. It is likely that the work will beat Possessed to take the number one spot at the box office.
