With only a few days left until the full moon of August, the mooncake market is gradually becoming more vibrant. This year, besides the traditional flavors, cakes with fried green rice and salted eggs are causing a "fever" and are quickly running out of stock in some places.
According to records, this year's Mid-Autumn Festival, many handmade cake brands launched many new flavors of mooncakes that are very popular with customers. Among them, mooncakes with fried green rice and salted eggs, priced at 65,000-85,000 VND/piece, were sought after by customers, who even had to line up from early morning and wait 2-3 hours.
Ms. Nguyet Ha (Hoang Liet Ward, Hanoi) said she had to wake up at 6am to buy the fried green rice cake that is taking the internet by storm. After watching the video shared on social media, she was eager to try it so she took advantage of the weekend to go early, but when she arrived, there was already a long line of people.
"I had to wait for more than 2 hours, until around 8 o'clock, to buy 5 moon cakes. Due to the large number of customers, the store limited each person to buying a maximum of 5 cakes, including 1 cake with fried green rice and salted egg filling," she said.
According to Ms. Ha, the store also has an online sales channel but is currently fully booked until October 3. "I wanted to order more for my relatives but I couldn't," she regretted.
Not only Ms. Ha, many other customers also said they had to wait in long lines, even waiting 2-3 hours just to buy this "hot trend" cake.

Faced with the sudden increase in purchasing power, many stores quickly caught up with the trend, introducing cakes with fried green rice and salted eggs to meet the demand. Ms. Phan Thuy, owner of a bakery in Tu Liem Ward ( Hanoi ), said that the number of orders for this type of cake this year increased 2-3 times compared to last year, with some days she received more than 100 orders.
"The Mid-Autumn Festival coincides with the harvest of green rice, so many shops combine making moon cakes and sticky rice cakes. Thanks to the unique taste, combining the sweetness of sticky rice and young coconut, this type of cake is sought after by many customers, most of whom have to order in advance," said Ms. Thuy.
According to her, the advantage of this cake is that it is less sweet than traditional cakes. The shop uses carefully selected green rice from Vong village, processed by hand every day to preserve its distinctive flavor.
On groups, moon cakes with many new flavors are also being sold vigorously. The price is 20,000-40,000 VND/piece higher than traditional moon cakes but still attracts many buyers. Many sellers said that the number of customers ordering moon cakes with fried green rice and salted eggs may continue to increase sharply in the days leading up to the Mid-Autumn Festival.
In addition to moon cakes with stir-fried green rice and salted eggs, this year's Mid-Autumn Festival, moon cakes with lotus paste and salted eggs also attract customers as the trend of enjoying cakes becomes popular.
Accordingly, many people flatten, refrigerate, and cut the cake into small pieces to enjoy instead of cutting large pieces like traditional cakes. The selling price of this product is about 250,000-300,000 VND/350 gram cake with 4 salted eggs. Many people think that this price is too expensive compared to the quality.
