Preserving many cultural beauties

Hon Dung village is one of 13 villages of Khanh Son commune, with the majority of Raglai people living together in a community and carrying unique cultural features. People live mainly on agricultural production (growing rice, corn, cassava, vegetables and fruit trees such as durian, mangosteen, rambutan, grapefruit, jackfruit, banana). The whole village has 250 households, of which 219 are Raglai households with 647 people. The Raglai people here have a rich history and culture and still preserve many beautiful cultural features such as: Performing musical instruments such as Chapi, lithophone, and Ma la; performing traditional costumes; singing folk songs and epics. This is also the only locality that still preserves the traditional long house model of the Raglai people to hold thanksgiving ceremonies for parents, new rice celebrations, and weddings. Hon Dung village is located 3km from the center of Khanh Son commune, near tourist attractions such as: To Hap revolutionary base; Ta Gu waterfall scenic spot; Doc Gao archaeological site. Coming to Hon Dung village, tourists can visit, learn, experience the places where wine is made, traditional long houses, enjoy folk songs, Ma la musical instruments, gourd flute, stone instrument...

Suoi Ca village has 416 households with 1,545 people, including 11 ethnic groups living together, of which the Raglai ethnic group accounts for the majority and has many typical traditional cultural values. These are festivals (new rice celebration, gratitude ceremony, horse-leaving ceremony); traditional stilt houses; use and performance of traditional musical instruments such as the Khen Bau, Mouth horn, Ta-cung flute, Chapi, Ma La, lithophone; singing folk songs, performing folk dances; unique ethnic culinary culture with many delicious dishes... From Suoi Ca village, there are also many advantages when connecting with a number of tourist attractions in Trung Khanh Vinh commune such as: Hon Du Revolutionary Base, Zi-ong waterfall, Hoa Qua Son farm. Suoi Ca village also has a Raglai ethnic folk culture club consisting of 30 members who maintain regular activities to teach, practice singing, dancing folk songs, folk dances, and perform traditional musical instruments... These are cultural tourism resources that need to be preserved and promoted in order to exploit and form tourism products for the locality.

Need attention, investment and conservation

According to Ms. Cao Thi Ngoc Thanh - Chairman of Trung Khanh Vinh Commune People's Committee, currently, the traditional cultural values of the Raglai people in the locality are increasingly fading due to many reasons. One of the reasons is the impact of the market economy and the development of modern culture that has gradually lost traditional cultural values. Therefore, investing in and preserving the traditional cultural village for the Raglai people in Suoi Ca village is necessary. From here, it contributes to preserving and promoting the value of tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Raglai people in Suoi Ca village.

In recent years, along with the implementation of policies and orientations for socio-economic development, Trung Khanh Vinh commune has made many efforts in implementing plans to develop community tourism and mountain eco-tourism associated with the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values of the Raglai people. However, due to limited resources, the results have not been as expected.

Sharing the same situation, the leader of Khanh Son commune said that in recent years, the local Party Committee and government have paid special attention to preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of the Raglai ethnic group in the area. For example, in Hon Dung village, artisan Mau Hong Thai has been cared for and supported with conditions to develop the craft of making musical instruments and weaving household utensils with 4 products certified to meet 3-star OCOP standards (backpack, crossbow set, Chapi instrument, and gourd flute); Mr. Mau Quoc He's household with the craft of making rice wine has become a place to serve groups of visitors to experience. The village has also established a team specializing in serving food at the traditional Raglai long house with typical mountain and forest dishes; there is an art troupe to serve tourists.

Mr. Le Van Hoa - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said: After receiving the documents from Khanh Son commune and Trung Khanh Vinh commune requesting support for investment in preserving the Raglai ethnic traditional cultural village in Hon Dung village and Suoi Ca village, the department has issued a document guiding localities to conduct a survey of the proposed project location according to the criteria issued by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Based on the report results of the two communes, the department synthesized and proposed the location for the implementation of the Project "Supporting investment in preserving typical traditional cultural villages of ethnic minorities" under the Project "Preserving and promoting good traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development in Khanh Hoa province" in Suoi Ca village and Hon Dung village. When the project is approved, it will contribute significantly to preserving and sustainably promoting typical cultural values in the traditional cultural and social space of the Raglai people as well as contributing to preserving, promoting and honoring the unique cultural identity of ethnic groups associated with tourism development of the province.
