Preserving the long house of the Ede people

Lê VânLê Vân28/05/2024

To preserve gongs and epic singing, the Ede people must also preserve their living space - one of the unique cultures of the Ede people. The Ede people have the habit of living together with 3 or 4 generations in a large house. The long house is a typical reflection of the matriarchal system of the Ede people. Through many economic and social changes as well as strong cultural exchanges between communities, the new generations of the Ede people have changed their way of life in the direction of separating from the extended family and forming their own families, gradually fading away the matriarchal system. Therefore, the traditional long house is no longer developed but gradually transformed into a concrete house.
