Closing of the 38th Annual Conference of the Asia-Pacific Bar Association

After more than two working days, on the afternoon of October 13, in Hanoi, the 38th Annual Conference of the Asia-Pacific Bar Association (LAWASIA 2025) officially closed.

With the theme “Transactions in Asia - Pacific: Legal, Cultural and Environmental Challenges”, the Conference was attended by nearly 600 delegates representing leaders from bar associations, law practice organizations, judicial agencies, and law universities of countries in the Asia - Pacific region and around the world.

Delegates held discussions and held more than 30 thematic sessions, with contents such as: Towards Asia 2050 - Realizing the "Asian Century" through trade, investment and dispute resolution; Strengthening legal cooperation in "Belt and Road" initiative projects - Navigating domestic law, international frameworks and resolving cross-border disputes; Promoting commercial mediation as a tool to ensure justice. Delegates also mentioned the role of green finance and carbon credits in mitigating climate change; International trade law and tariffs in Asia - Pacific; challenging times for lawyers and law; the role of law in preserving the diversity and uniqueness of indigenous and local cultures in the context of globalization; the role of judges, lawyers and professional bodies in shaping the future of law...

At the conference, Vietnam proposed two topics: Strengthening the foundation of peace , cooperation and development in the East Sea region on the basis of international law; the role of law in preserving the diversity and uniqueness of indigenous cultures in the context of globalization.

Accordingly, Vietnam affirms its determination and perseverance in the struggle to protect its sovereignty and legitimate and legal interests at sea; proactively and actively resolve and handle disputes and disagreements at sea by peaceful means on the basis of international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982); and focuses on preserving, conserving and promoting the rich and diverse cultural identity of the Vietnamese people in the process of deep international integration.

Within the framework of the Conference, the Special Session “Strengthening the foundation of peace, cooperation and development in East Asia based on international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982)” attracted many speakers and people of interest. The special session was chaired by Lawyer, Dr. Tran Cong Truc, former Head of the Government Border Committee, with the participation of speakers such as Mr. Varun K. Chopra, VKC Law Office (India); Dr. Lawyer Nguyen Ba Cuong, Executive Director of VNJUST Law Firm (Vietnam); Ms. Kokila Vaani Vadiveloo, Kumar Chambers Law Firm (Malaysia).

Lawyer Do Ngoc Thinh, President of the Vietnam Bar Federation, expressed his honor that the Federation had the opportunity to coordinate in organizing the 38th Annual Conference of the Asia-Pacific Bar Association in Hanoi. This is the most important annual activity of the Asia-Pacific Bar Association to connect lawyers and member bar associations for a common goal: Building and developing the legal profession, a team of prestigious and qualified lawyers to serve the community.

The organization of the 38th Annual Conference of the Asia-Pacific Bar Association in Hanoi is an opportunity to promote the image of Vietnam and its people, and to introduce to international lawyers and scholars the legal system, the judiciary, the open-door policies, socio-economic development and international integration of Vietnam. The event is expected to open up many potential cooperation opportunities between Vietnamese lawyers and businesses with international partners.
