Cuong is a student with quite a special situation. When he was in 12th grade, his mother suddenly fell ill and became paralyzed on one side of her body. For the past 4 years, this illness has lasted, Cuong's mother can no longer work and has to live on government subsidies. The whole family only depends on his father with his work as a construction worker and on the farm.

Despite their difficult circumstances, Cuong's parents still took care of their three children to go to university and college. Before Cuong, the eldest brother had completed college, the second brother studied construction at university. When Cuong went to university, Cuong's father took care of both brothers by himself. The tuition fees for the two brothers were mainly from loans from the local social policy bank. The living expenses were provided by the father's monthly job.

Recalling the time when he first set foot in the dormitory of Ho Chi Minh City National University, Cuong called it a series of confusing days. However, the male student overcame all challenges and near the end of year 1, he found a part-time job to earn some income to help his father. Cuong's first job since the end of year 1 until now is teaching programming to primary and secondary school students. Although the online teaching salary is small, it helps to reduce the financial pressure on his father each month.

By his second year, the male IT student found another job related to his major, writing programming articles. "Working two jobs at the same time, I can cover my living expenses and reduce the monthly burden on my parents," Cuong said.

This new school year, right after returning to the dormitory, Cuong took on a new job as a math tutor. Taking on different tasks at once, Cuong appropriately allocates his limited time during the day between studying and working. Cuong tutors mostly in the evenings, and writes articles for the website, Cuong does so in his free time during the day.

Talking about his learning method, Cuong shared: "My learning is flexible. I will study whenever I have free time and not study at school. Sometimes I study in the afternoon, morning or late at night. When studying, I will not measure my study time by hours, but just study until I feel too tired, then I will rest. I will rest when I finish my lessons at school. In addition, I also study outside knowledge and hope to have the opportunity to do an internship soon."

Despite working part-time to earn money to cover living expenses, Cuong's academic results are still admirable. Throughout three years of study, this student has always achieved excellent cumulative grades and has no outstanding credits.

In addition to studying, Cuong actively participates in a number of activities organized by the school and faculty, such as: healthy youth, team building, a number of activities such as visiting and giving gifts to disadvantaged families (operating in Cu Chi area) organized by the school's delegation, repainting residential areas, cleaning student accommodation, organizing activities for students, sweeping clean and green streets...

Sharing about the first time he set foot in Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Chi Cuong said: "At that time, my biggest worry when I first came to the city was that it was too big. I had just come from the countryside and was afraid that I wouldn't know anything and people would cheat me... It took me about a month to adapt to life in this city, from getting to know the guys in the dormitory room, to taking the bus to school."

To overcome this challenge and adapt to his current life, Cuong always reminds himself: "My parents worked hard to give me this opportunity and I cannot miss it. I feel that I must constantly strive to study and not give up so that one day I can help my family escape financial difficulties and no longer worry or think about finances."

The male student continued: "My parents love me very much. Even though they don't have food at home, they still manage to send me money to study. Therefore, I tell myself to always remember my parents' kindness and no matter how difficult it is, I must not give up. A sentence I really like and always in my head, motivating me when I'm tired is: the speed of your success must be faster than the speed of your parents' aging."

From his own experience, Cuong has a message for new students who are away from home for the first time and coming to a big city to study at university. The second factor, according to Cuong, is time management skills. "Make a reasonable plan to balance between studying, part-time work if any and time for yourself. This will help you avoid time pressure and feel more comfortable in daily life," said the male student.
