Currently living in Virginia (USA), Mrs. Lemay goes to the gym 3 times a week, cycles for 1 hour and walks more than 1.6 km on the treadmill. Despite her 100 years, she still lives alone, cooks for herself and drove until she was 98.

“I always exercise. I feel fine. After cycling and walking, I might be a little tired but that’s normal,” he said. Born in 1925, he believes that exercise and good diet are the keys to his health and longevity.

After a video of him practicing was posted on Instagram, he quickly became an "internet star" with nearly 600,000 likes.

Below are the longevity secrets he shared on Today :

Always move

Every morning, Lemay does stretches, knee raises, leg kicks, and light weights. On days when she doesn’t go to the gym, she walks around the house. When she does go to the gym, she cycles for 30 minutes, rests for 5 minutes, then cycles for another 30 minutes, then walks 1 mile.

“One of my favorite exercises is walking. I used to walk 6km every day and always felt healthier,” she said. At that time, her husband encouraged her: “Just walk the dog and I will cook dinner.”

Eat healthy and enjoy your favorite foods

Lemay always pays attention to his diet. His daily menu includes nonfat yogurt, walnuts, oatmeal with banana and milk or scrambled eggs on toast.

She prefers chicken and seafood, and eats very little beef and pork. Her meals always include fruits and vegetables such as red grapes, blueberries, green beans, corn, cabbage, tomatoes, pumpkin and onions.

“I like vegetables. I grew up in the countryside, my father grew all kinds of vegetables and they are good for your health,” he said. He still cooks for himself, avoids salt to protect his heart, does not drink alcohol and has never smoked.

On weekends, he treats himself to two hot dogs from his favorite restaurant. “That’s his only treat of the week. I like them with chili, mustard and lots of onions,” he says with a laugh.

Independent and sociable

Lemay worked for many years at the headquarters of a supermarket chain, holding the positions of credit fund manager and analyst, and was even sent to model school by the company to promote its products. He still lives in the same house he has lived in for 57 years and only stopped driving at the age of 98.

Her daughter believes that her mother’s mental health also contributes greatly to her longevity: “She is very sociable and well-liked by everyone. When she goes for a walk, neighbors often stop to chat. She probably talks more than she walks, but that’s good too.”

The mother and daughter regularly attend birthday parties, festivals and weekend get-togethers. “I think we are very sociable people. And maybe that’s why my mother has lived so long,” said Lemay’s 78-year-old daughter.
