(NLDO) – The shock before the Vietnamese women's volleyball team went to Thailand to compete in the World Championship was that setter Bich Tuyen withdrew her name due to family reasons.

Although the team's coaching board announced the final list more than a week ago, on the morning of August 19, just one day before flying to Thailand to participate in the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Championship, player Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen withdrew her name and did not participate in the tournament due to family reasons.

According to information from the Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV), the Coaching Board is forced to respect the decision of the athletes even though they know that without Bich Tuyen, the attacking strength of the Vietnamese team will decrease significantly.

VFF General Secretary Le Tri Truong said: "We have been informed by the team's coaching staff that player Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen asked not to participate in the tournament due to family reasons. This is an unavoidable situation and we respect the athlete's decision."

Bich Tuyen is considered one of the pillars of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team.

In the recent round 2 of SEA V.League 2025, Bich Tuyen played very well, especially in the final match against Thailand, when she scored 45 points, accounting for 42% of the team's total points.

Vietnam won 3-2 against Thailand, winning an official tournament at the Southeast Asian level for the first time. Bich Tuyen herself won the double title of "Best Player" and "Best Opposite Player" of the tournament.

On the evening of August 19, the Vietnamese team will play their last friendly match at Dong Anh Stadium ( Hanoi ), against the Kenyan women's team. Before that, the team played a friendly match against the Spanish women's team on the evening of August 16 with the participation of Bich Tuyen and lost 0-4.

Both Spain and Kenya will participate in the world tournament like Vietnam.
