Regarding the consideration of transcripts, public opinion has long had many debates about "beautifying" transcripts at the end of the year.

Therefore, eliminating admission based on academic records is the trend of some universities in the 2025 university admission season.

More than 120 universities have announced their expected admission methods, of which many large universities have "said no" to considering high school transcripts.

Typically, Ho Chi Minh City National University agrees with its member schools to implement three university admission methods, including direct admission, admission based on the results of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam, and admission based on high school graduation results.

Previously, the priority admission method of Ho Chi Minh City National University was considered to be "selectively" considering academic records in 83 specialized high schools, gifted high schools and 66 high schools with good achievements according to the unit's own criteria.

Compared to 2024, Hanoi National University of Education and Thai Nguyen University of Education plan to eliminate the method of considering high school transcripts and considering transcripts combined with aptitude test scores.

Since 2024, the National Economics University has eliminated the admission method based on academic records.

Regarding admission wishes, in 2025, the total number of candidates registering for the exam will reach 852,000 with 7.6 million wishes for more than 4,000 majors and training programs of more than 500 universities and colleges nationwide.

The entire process is done entirely online, from registration, fee payment, virtual screening and admission confirmation. The Northern group (chaired by Hanoi University of Science and Technology) organizes a general admission exam for 65 training institutions.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, among more than 1.16 million students taking the high school graduation exam this year, about 310,000 students did not apply for university or college admission, accounting for nearly 27%.

Nationwide, on average, for every 3 candidates applying to university, 1 candidate refuses to take the university entrance exam.

This number is not small but not too surprising as this has been a reality for many years: Students refuse to go to university.

From 2022, each year on average, about 30% of students do not register their university admission wishes. The highest rate will be in 2022 when up to 36% of candidates do not register for university admission.
