5G network packages start to air in Vietnam

The first 5G packages

"The average speed is about 300Mbps. There were times in many places when it reached 400Mbps. The internet speed is very fast, playing online games or watching videos is very enjoyable!", Mr. Minh Tan (living in Binh Thanh district, Ho Chi Minh City) shared after unexpectedly experiencing the 5G network in the past few days.

5G networks offer much higher connection speeds than 4G, with theoretical speeds of up to 10Gbps. In real-world conditions, common 5G speeds can be 1Gbps, 10 times faster than 4G.

According to Tuoi Tre , many users in many provinces and cities have shared that they have received 5G network signals on their smartphones in recent days. Some people have turned on WiFi broadcasting mode from their phones so that their laptops can connect to the network quickly and process quickly.

According to Viettel, this network offers 11 prepaid packages and 8 postpaid packages for 5G. 5G package prices start from 135,000 VND/month (4GB/day, free TV360 movie library, free 20GB storage service). The prepaid package with the largest capacity is 20GB/day, equivalent to 600GB/month, priced at 480,000 VND/month.

The biggest postpaid package has a data capacity of up to 50GB/day, priced at up to 2 million VND/month (subscribers get 60 minutes/free domestic calls and 400 minutes of calls to other networks, 250 domestic SMS). Users can choose to buy only the 5G data package, or a combo package of calls, data and free other 5G content.

Network operators race to provide 5G

While Viettel officially announced the launch of commercial 5G from October 15, VinaPhone allowed customers to experience 5G for free in covered areas.

Specifically, from October 13 to November 15, VinaPhone subscribers who already have a 5G phone will be able to participate in the program to experience super-fast 5G for free (get 50GB of data to use in 30 days). Accordingly, VinaPhone subscribers will receive a notification message inviting them to experience the service for free.

VinaPhone representative said that according to plan, by the end of 2024, VNPT will complete the installation of over 3,000 5G broadcasting stations, especially in urban areas and major economic centers nationwide.

Previously, Viettel said it had signed a cooperation agreement with Supermicro (USA) to support technology development, focusing on global solutions in the fields of 5G technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

Meanwhile, MobiFone said it is implementing a model of infrastructure sharing cooperation with network operators with suitable 5G bands. In early October 2024, MobiFone signed a memorandum of understanding with Ericsson to cooperate on innovation and accompany 5G development in Vietnam.

"In the coming time, MobiFone will launch 5G products and services to meet customer needs, ensuring stable and fast transmission quality," a representative of this network operator informed.

Waiting for more new 5G services

The characteristics of the 5G network are not only superior in connection speed but also in the number of devices connected at the same time and the connection delay (theoretically) is almost zero. Therefore, the 5G network is expected to exploit many new services.

"When 5G runs stably, it will promote many new features and new utilities that have been and are being tested on cars," Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ngan, CEO of NEG Vietnam car dealership, shared with Tuoi Tre .

According to Mr. Ngan, current electric car models have many smart services that require network connection such as routing, AI virtual assistant, self-driving program, entertainment software... 5G will help exploit these services.

Ms. Anh Hong, representative of the 24hStore retail system, said that the 5G network significantly improves the experience of using the Internet, such as watching 4K videos, playing online games, participating in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) applications.
