The pedestrian overpass was built to ensure traffic safety and reduce congestion on major roads in Hanoi. However, a group of young people use this overpass as a place to gather, have fun, and eat.

After 1 a.m., on the pedestrian overpass at Mai Dich intersection on Ho Tung Mau street (Cau Giay district, Hanoi), many people gathered, spread mats and sat across the bridge to eat, drink, and play cards.

A group of young people brought a whole case of beer up to the overpass to eat and drink, "the reason is because sitting on the bridge is very cool and has a nice view," a young man named Khang innocently shared.

Groups of young people also brought speakers and microphones to sing karaoke. The noise from the singing and talking lasted all night.

The entire space of the overpass was occupied, many people were sitting playing cards.

According to observation, the people going on the overpass are mainly young people, including students.

As the night went on, more and more people gathered on the overpass.

Young people sat on both sides of the stairs going up and down.

Despite warning signs, many people still carelessly go on the overpass to party all night.

Nguyen Ngoc Chi (Cau Giay District) shared that sometimes he feels shy when going up the overpass because at night there are too many people gathering there. "Sometimes I have to walk across the street instead of going over the overpass," Chi added.

The situation of using pedestrian overpasses as gathering places occurs in many places in the capital such as: the overpass in the area of ​​the People's Security Academy (Ha Dong district), Trieu Khuc overpass (Thanh Xuan district), the overpass on Ho Tung Mau street (Cau Giay district).

Nhu Quynh (Ha Dong district) and her two close friends bought food and sat on the overpass near the People's Security Academy (Ha Dong district). "My friends and I only ate a few snacks, watched the traffic for a while, then went home," Quynh said.

Ms. Le Thi Bich (Ha Dong district) said that the situation of young people gathering on the overpass in this area has been happening for many years and has recently increased. "Many groups of young people eat, litter, and sing loudly, affecting the people around the area," Ms. Bich shared.

At 2:30, on Trieu Khuc overpass (Thanh Xuan district), there were still many groups of young people gathering.

A group of young people sat together listening to music on the overpass. "Today is one of our friends' birthdays, and it's almost morning so we didn't know where to go so we sat on the overpass," said one of the young people.

After each party, people left behind a lot of food waste and beer cans under the bridge and on the sidewalk.
