The deal comes as the European football transfer window is about to close. Lille are said to have spent €3 million to recruit Indonesian defender Calvin Verdonk from NEC Nijmegen on a 3-year contract.
At Lille, Calvin Verdonk will wear the number 24 shirt. After recruiting the Indonesian defender, Lille club president Olivier Letang said the reason the French team is interested in Calvin Verdonk.
"Calvin Verdonk is a player with a lot of experience, a complete left-back in both attack and defense," Mr. Letang said on the club's official website.
Calvin Verdonk (28 years old) is an Indonesian player of Dutch origin. He obtained Indonesian nationality in June 2024. Since then, Calvin Verdonk has played 10 times for the Indonesian national team, making a great contribution to helping the team reach the third qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup.
By joining Lille, Verdonk became the first Indonesian player to play in the French Championship (Ligue 1). Calvin Verdonk also made history as Lille's first Asian international player.
