The work of preserving, maintaining and promoting cultural values in Dong Nai not only contributes to forming a new cultural life but also strengthens the spirit of national solidarity, creating an important driving force for the socio -economic development of the province.
Many conservation activities are implemented synchronously.
Ly Lich 1 Hamlet, Phu Ly Commune used to be considered a "green village in the middle of a green war zone", one of the hamlets facing difficulties. Since the implementation of the National Target Program on New Rural Construction, along with the efforts of the people, the material and spiritual life of the people has been increasingly improved. This is also a hamlet with a large number of ethnic minorities, mainly the Choro people. Every year, the people here maintain the Sayangva Festival with many rituals such as: Worshiping the Rice God, performing gongs, grilling bamboo rice, brewing rice wine and many folk games such as crossbow shooting, bamboo dance... creating a vibrant cultural and sports movement.
Currently, in Phu Ly commune, there are 5 Choro artisans who are capable of performing and teaching the art of gong to young people. In particular, the artisans are preserving 6 gong songs of their ethnic group including: Greeting guests, Villagers go to the mountains and forests, Villagers protect their homeland together, Phoenix flies, Pounding rice and Lullaby.
Not only Phu Ly but also most of the communes and wards such as Thanh Son, Dinh Quan, Dong Tam, Bom Bo, Bu Dang, Loc Ninh, Bu Gia Map, Bao Vinh, Hang Gon with many ethnic groups of Stieng, Choro, Tay, Nung, Ma, M'nong, Khmer... are also being cared for, focused on preserving and promoting traditional cultural values. In the period of 2020-2025, Dong Nai has many heritages recognized as national intangible cultural heritages. Typical examples are: basket weaving and brocade weaving of the Stieng people, wine making techniques of the Stieng people, Sayangva Festival of the Choro people...
Village elder Dieu Liet (residing in La Nga commune) said: “For many years, the Party and the State have paid great attention to the material and spiritual life of ethnic minorities. We are proud that traditional cultural values are not only preserved but also recorded and continued by the younger generation. Thanks to that, the Sayangva Festival of the Choro people, along with their customs and traditional musical instruments, are increasingly known and appreciated by more and more people.” Along with preserving intangible culture, Dong Nai also focuses on preserving the system of tangible cultural heritages in 95 communes and wards.
According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, from 2020 to now, the whole province has invested in renovating and embellishing 14 relics with a total cost of more than 131 billion VND. The Department has advised the Provincial People's Committee to issue a plan to renovate and embellish relics in the 2024-2028 period with a total cost of 331.5 billion VND. This plan aims to preserve degraded relics, promote heritage values, and meet the sightseeing needs of people and tourists.
In the 9 months of 2025 alone, Dong Nai will build a dossier on the intangible cultural heritage of the Hand-Pounding Rice Profession of the Stieng and M'nong people in the old Binh Phuoc province; and establish a dossier on the Long Tong Festival (Going to the Field) of the Tay people in Dong Nai to propose inclusion in the list of national intangible cultural heritage. At the same time, the historical relic of the Southeast Security Department Base in Tri An commune will be ranked at the provincial level. In particular, the historical relic of Bom Bo village in Bom Bo commune was ranked as a national relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
In the 9 months of 2025, Dong Nai Museum and relics such as Tran Bien Temple of Literature, Nguyen Huu Canh Temple and Tomb, Tan Hiep Prison, Bien Hoa Citadel, Diplomatic House, Loc Ninh Military Airport, Southern Vietnam Liberation Army Command Base... welcomed more than 195 thousand visitors to visit, offer incense, learn and study.
Associated with tourism development and education of the young generation
Not only stopping at preservation, Dong Nai also focuses on bringing traditional cultural values into contemporary life, associated with community tourism development and educating the younger generation. In many localities, traditional festivals have become highlights in the sightseeing and experience programs of tourists. Thereby, creating more livelihoods for people while promoting and spreading the unique culture of ethnic groups in the area.
Currently, union members, youth and many schools in the province have included the content of learning about heritage, customs and folk arts in extracurricular activities. Students can directly visit relics, learn to play gongs, folk dance or experience handicrafts such as basket weaving, brocade weaving, wine making, etc. Thanks to that, the young generation not only gets closer to the cultural identity of their ancestors but also forms a sense of preserving, being proud of and spreading traditional values in the community.
Provincial Party Committee member and Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Thi Ngoc Loan emphasized: “Dong Nai will continue to prioritize resources to preserve, promote and develop tangible and intangible cultural heritage values. The province focuses on building key cultural works, especially restoring and embellishing typical historical and cultural relics to educate the younger generation about revolutionary traditions. At the same time, effectively exploiting and promoting the values of folk art forms, preserving the cultural identity of ethnic minorities, associated with the orientation of sustainable tourism development”.
In the development orientation for the period 2025-2030, the province identifies the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural and historical values of the land and people of Dong Nai as one of the key tasks, along with socio-economic development. The province will also focus on promoting the preservation and exploitation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, considering this an important spiritual resource to build a new cultural life and create tourism attraction.
