Uncle Minh "lonely" and the lesson "the whole leaves cover the torn leaves"

Anyone who has ever lived in the university village (Ho Chi Minh City National University area, Linh Xuan Ward) must have heard of Uncle Minh "lonely", also known as "the knight of the university village". Because for more than 20 years, Uncle Minh has lived alone, without wife, children, house, taking joy in pumping and patching tires, and moving free accommodation for students. People associated his name with the word "lonely" and over time he also used that as his nickname.

A former student in the Dormitory B Association - Ho Chi Minh National University, shared: “I was lucky to be one of the students that year who received a motorbike from Uncle Minh. That memory is still intact. In the past, after his makeshift house was set on fire by thieves, many people took pity on him and donated nearly 100 million VND to support him. However, he did not keep all that money for himself. He used all that money to buy motorbikes to give to poor students. I still remember when asked, he just chuckled, "Every day I deliver goods for acquaintances and earn hundreds of thousands, I can't spend it all. I don't have a wife or children, what's the use of such a large amount of money? It would be much happier if the children had a means of going to school." His noble heart has become an unforgettable part of the university village's memory."

Some people know Uncle Minh through his hut at the Quoc Phong intersection, in the National University Urban Area of Ho Chi Minh City, with the sign “Minh is lonely, delivers things for students for free” on his tricycle. Some people know him because he helped them when their vehicle had problems on the road. Others know him through stories told by others. Thus, Uncle Minh became an indispensable resident in the university village.

Tran Minh Quang (26 years old, Linh Xuan Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) said that 2 years ago, in the middle of a hot noon, he was walking on the highway because his car ran out of gas. Uncle Minh pulled over on a three-wheeled vehicle and asked, "Are you out of gas? Open the trunk and I'll give you some gas!". At that time, Quang didn't know who Uncle Minh was, but he just thought to himself, "The genie in real life really exists."

More than a “knight” of the university village, Uncle Minh is a living example of giving without expecting anything in return. Although he earns his living by working as a motorbike taxi driver, collecting scrap metal, and driving a tricycle, perhaps Uncle Minh still carries within himself the mission of “helping each other”, silently sowing seeds of kindness in the university village.

True fairy tale in modern society

On the night of September 12, Uncle Minh was admitted to Dong Nai General Hospital for emergency treatment with a diagnosis of heart and liver disease, requiring a breathing tube, IV fluids, and medication. Due to his lonely circumstances, with no family or identification, Uncle Minh encountered many difficulties during the treatment process.

But now the “lonely” Uncle Minh is no longer lonely because the students he has helped over the years have come to help their benefactor. In just one night, the Phong Bui account posted information about Uncle Minh being hospitalized on social media, he received more than 1,400 messages and 39 emails related to Uncle Minh asking for contact, help, and visits.

Mr. Le Van Phong, owner of the Facebook channel Phong Bui, said: “Generations of dormitory students, from area A, area B to former students now living all over the world, all remember an uncle who devoted his whole life to helping them. Like a friend who sent an email from the US: 'I used to be a student in area A, my uncle took me to find a place to stay. Now that I'm in the US, hearing that my uncle is sick, I feel sad. My youth had my uncle in it'."

Ms. Ngoc Oanh (26 years old, Linh Xuan Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) was also helped by him 5 years ago. She said that year she did not have a vehicle, and was struggling with a pile of moving things when Mr. Minh came and helped her a short distance. "I did not have time to thank him before he left, I only had time to see his name on the three-wheeled vehicle's sign. For me, it was not just a trip, but a precious memory, a spiritual support in the first days away from home," Ms. Oanh said. Now, when she heard that he was sick, she had enough ability to help him and wished him luck.

The cool drops of water that you have given over more than 20 years of helping students have now become a stream of love flowing back to you.

Now, when Uncle Minh is "alone" on his hospital bed, the solidarity of generations of students - from dormitories A and B to alumni in the West - is proof that kindness always finds its way to the right place. A true fairy tale of "good deeds are rewarded" in modern society.
