According to the VNA special correspondent, at 7:15 p.m. on September 21 local time (morning of September 22 Vietnam time), the plane carrying President Luong Cuong and his wife and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation arrived at JF Kennedy International Airport, New York City, the United States, to attend the High-Level General Debate of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, combined with bilateral activities in the United States.
Welcoming the President and his wife along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation at JF Kennedy International Airport were Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States Nguyen Quoc Dung; Ambassador, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the United Nations Do Hung Viet and staff of the Embassy and the Delegation.

This is President Luong Cuong's first working trip to attend a multilateral foreign activity at the largest global forum, of primary importance in the context of the United Nations celebrating its 80th anniversary; at the same time, the working trip also marks the 2nd anniversary of the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the United States and the 30th anniversary of the normalization of relations between the two countries.
After nearly 50 years, the Vietnam-United Nations relationship continues to develop positively, deepening and being constantly consolidated and strengthened. The United Nations has always accompanied Vietnam from the period of national reconstruction, post-war recovery, to the period of breaking the embargo and gradually integrating into the world.

Participating in the United Nations, Vietnam has also left a deep impression as an increasingly proactive and active member, contributing more and more substantially and extensively in terms of ideas, people and resources in all areas of the United Nations' pillar activities on peacekeeping , security and development cooperation. Vietnam has been making increasingly substantial contributions in terms of ideas, people and resources at multilateral forums, especially at the United Nations, gaining the trust of the United Nations leadership and the international community and having high expectations.
With persistent efforts to contribute to the noble missions of the United Nations in recent times, President Luong Cuong's participation in the High-Level General Debate of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly continues to affirm Vietnam's contributions to the world's largest multilateral organization, while also demonstrating Vietnam's proactiveness and positivity in participating in solving regional and world issues.
According to the schedule, the President will attend the high-level meeting commemorating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, deliver important speeches at the High-level General Debate of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly and the Special Global High-Level Event on Climate Action, thereby conveying the message affirming Vietnam's role as a responsible member of the United Nations, proactively participating in and making positive and substantial contributions to the major activities and priorities of the United Nations and the international community.

At the same time, the President will have bilateral meetings and contacts with leaders of international organizations and countries attending the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly.
Meanwhile, after 30 years of normalization of relations and two years since upgrading the relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development, the Vietnam-US relationship continues to develop deeply and extensively, maintaining positive momentum and achieving many remarkable results, increasing the strategic quality of cooperation between the two sides in all fields, especially in cooperation to overcome the consequences of war.
Over the past two years, there have been many meetings and phone calls between Vietnamese leaders and the US President. During these high-level exchanges and contacts, the two countries' leaders also agreed to continue to increase delegation exchanges and contacts at all channels and levels, especially at the high level, to create a foundation and orientation for the development of bilateral relations in all fields.
On the basis of increasingly expanding political relations, economic cooperation, trade and investment between Vietnam and the United States have developed strongly. The United States continues to be Vietnam's leading export market with a trade turnover of nearly 134.6 billion USD in 2024 and the two countries are currently striving to soon bring the turnover to 200 billion USD in the near future.
During the working trip, the President will have meetings with US leaders, receive businesses, financial institutions, long-time friends and partners, leading scholars, attend a meeting between Vietnamese and US veterans, meet with officials and staff of Vietnamese representative agencies and prominent representatives of the Vietnamese community.
The President also chaired the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day in New York to affirm the policy of attaching importance to further developing relations with the United States, especially in the fields of economics, trade, investment, science and technology; promoting the implementation of agreements and commitments between high-ranking leaders of the two countries; seeking support from all sectors for Vietnam and the Vietnam-US relationship, demonstrating the Party and State's attention to the Vietnamese community in the United States./.
