Early morning of September 25, President Luong Cuong and his wife, along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, arrived in Hanoi , successfully concluding their trip to attend the high-level General Debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, combined with bilateral activities in the United States from September 21-24.
On this occasion, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Hoang Giang gave an interview to the press accompanying the delegation about the results of the working trip.
VNA respectfully introduces the content of the interview:
- Could you please share the outstanding results of President Luong Cuong's working trip to attend the High-Level Debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, combined with bilateral activities in the United States?
Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang: From September 21-24, President Luong Cuong and his wife, along with the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation, attended the High-Level Debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, combined with bilateral activities in the United States.
The trip takes place at a very meaningful time when both Vietnam and the United Nations celebrate the 80th anniversary of their founding and Vietnam-US celebrate the 30th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations.
With nearly 70 diverse and effective activities, President Luong Cuong's working trip was a great success, achieving all set goals at a high level, leaving outstanding marks in many aspects, both multilaterally and bilaterally.
Overall, the working trip is a step in implementing Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, multilateralization, proactiveness, and comprehensive, deep, and effective international integration in the international arena.
Through the statements of countries at the High-Level Debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly and in the exchanges between countries and the President at bilateral meetings, it can be clearly seen that peace, cooperation and development continue to be the common trend and the aspiration of people around the world.
Most countries also continue to promote multilateralism, in which the United Nations plays a leading role, and the United Nations Charter and international law continue to be the "anchor" for countries to promote cooperation to solve common problems and protect national interests.
This is an important foundation for countries, including Vietnam, to maintain and strengthen a peaceful and stable environment and focus resources on development.

The messages of the President and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation at the United Nations, a global multilateral forum, are among the positive voices supporting multilateralism, multilateral cooperation, and the central role of the United Nations, the United Nations Charter and international law in solving global issues.
The statements of President Luong Cuong and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation at the United Nations and with countries and international friends also brought to the world the story of Vietnam rising from the ashes of war and poverty to become a developing country with average income, with great potential, entering a new era, an era of strong development and prosperity.
What is very meaningful is that Vietnam's commitments are not only in words but also in very practical and specific actions such as continuing to be an active and responsible member in important mechanisms of the United Nations (United Nations Human Rights Council, International Law Commission, agencies of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization - UNESCO...), chairing major multilateral activities of the United Nations such as the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime (October 2025), Chairman of the Review Conference of the United Nations Convention on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in 2026, continuing to actively deploy peacekeeping activities...
Also on this occasion, Vietnam and Tuvalu signed a Joint Communique establishing diplomatic relations between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Tuvalu.
By signing this Joint Communique, Vietnam became one of the few countries that has diplomatic relations with all countries in the world and all members of the United Nations.
Regarding bilateral cooperation with the United States, the President and the Vietnamese delegation also brought the message of "putting aside the past, overcoming differences, and looking toward the future" in the context of the two countries celebrating 30 years of establishing diplomatic relations and 2 years of establishing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
If the President's emotional meetings with veterans of the two countries and friends and progressive people of the United States clearly expressed the message of gratitude, healing and reconciliation after the war, then the President's meetings with the US government, the US Congress, state governments, businesses and large corporations of the United States further reinforced optimism about the prospects for developing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, for the benefit of businesses and people of the two countries.
- With the above outstanding results, could you please tell us how Vietnam will coordinate with its partners in the coming time to implement these important cooperation contents?
Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang: Following closely the results achieved during the President's working trip, in the coming time, Vietnam will promote implementation and concretize as follows:
First, continue to proactively, positively, responsibly, creatively and effectively participate in the activities of the United Nations and other multilateral forums.
Through specific commitments and practical initiatives, we demonstrate our own role and identity, while making contributions commensurate with Vietnam's role and position.
In the immediate future, Vietnam will carefully prepare and organize well the Opening Ceremony of the Cybercrime Convention next October.
Second, promote in-depth relations with countries and organizations through enhanced cooperation within the framework of international and regional organizations as well as close and regular exchanges and cooperation on security, political, regional and international issues of common concern, effectively implementing commitments to maximize support and assistance from the international community and important partners in terms of resources, contributing to national development.
With the United States, maintain meetings and exchanges of delegations at all levels, especially high-level ones, continue to promote cooperation in the fields of economics, trade, investment, security, national defense, science and technology, innovation, artificial intelligence (AI), transportation, education and training, the pillars of cooperation in bilateral relations.
The two sides will also work together to resolve the consequences of war, while continuing dialogue to resolve remaining differences in bilateral relations.
- Thank you very much, Deputy Minister./.
