President: Primary health care is the frontline in protecting and caring for people's health

On the occasion of the 69th anniversary of Vietnam Doctors' Day, this morning, February 25, in Ha Nam , President Vo Van Thuong visited and congratulated the doctors of Thanh Liem District Medical Center; visited and encouraged the doctors and medical staff of Thanh Phong Commune Medical Station, Thanh Liem District. Also joining the delegation were leaders of the Office of the President, the Ministry of Health, and Ha Nam Province.

Reporting to President Vo Van Thuong and the delegation, the leaders of Thanh Liem District Medical Center said that the Center has multifunctional tasks, performing preventive medicine, medical examination and treatment, and population work.

The entire Center has 200 staff, doctors, and medical staff, with a capacity of 100 beds. Modern technical equipment and new science and technology have been applied to protect and care for people's health and provide professional support to the commune level.

Last year, the Medical Center received financial support from the program to recover and develop the socio-economy after the COVID-19 pandemic with nearly 40 billion VND invested in facilities and equipment for medical examination and treatment.

In recent times, Thanh Liem District Medical Center has performed well in medical examination and treatment, actively preventing and fighting epidemics such as COVID-19; hand-foot-mouth disease, dengue fever. The Center has also promoted digitalization in medical examination and treatment, in which 18/18 medical facilities have ID card readers to replace health insurance cards; deployed an automatic patient reception system; and implemented a cashless payment model.

At Thanh Liem District Medical Center, the President visited the model of receiving patients for medical examination and treatment automatically using citizen identification cards instead of health insurance cards, a model that brings many benefits to patients, especially saving time for both doctors and patients.

On the occasion of the Vietnamese Doctors' Day, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, President Vo Van Thuong sent his best wishes, respect and love to the doctors and medical staff of Thanh Liem district and Ha Nam province.

The President acknowledged and highly appreciated the team of cadres, doctors and medical staff of Thanh Liem district for their many achievements in taking care of people's health with high skills, love for the job and high responsibility in performing their duties; equipment and facilities well meet the needs of medical examination and treatment.

The President highly appreciated the district's health stations from the commune level up for their good implementation of national target programs on grassroots health, vaccination, primary health care, adolescent health counseling, screening and care for patients with chronic diseases.

Through contact with people coming for medical examination and treatment, the President realized that people respect and appreciate the attitude of doctors and nurses in serving patients.

Affirming that medicine is a noble profession, with the greatest mission being to cure and save lives, bringing joy and happiness to each person, family and society, the President said that if grassroots healthcare operates effectively, it will contribute to building a sustainable future for the locality and the country.

With 11,400 commune, ward and town health stations... nationwide, the President stated that this is the health system closest to the people, the frontline in caring for and protecting people's health. Therefore, if the frontline performs its tasks well, many types of diseases will be limited; early prevention will reduce serious cases; contribute to reducing the load on upper-level hospitals, especially reducing medical examination and treatment costs.

The President noted that the Secretariat has issued Directive No. 25 dated October 25, 2023 on continuing to consolidate, improve and enhance the quality of grassroots health care activities in the new situation. Therefore, district and provincial leaders and health sector units need to continue to thoroughly grasp and best implement this Directive.

Sharing the difficulties, pressures and risks of the medical profession, the President hopes that doctors, cadres and medical staff will constantly improve their professional qualifications; always maintain a high sense of responsibility; sympathize, share, and bring warm feelings to patients and their families, because the sharing and encouragement of doctors and medical staff are of great value to patients and their families.

The President requested the Party committees, authorities and relevant agencies of Ha Nam province and Thanh Liem district to continue to pay attention to investing more in grassroots healthcare, focusing on investing in human resource development, thereby improving the quality of medical examination and treatment at grassroots healthcare; continue to invest in facilities and medical equipment, and build smart, friendly, green, clean and beautiful hospitals. Doctors and nurses continue to research and find ways to treat new diseases, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Appreciating the district medical center for its digitalization and digital transformation, the President asked the center to continue applying it to facilitate medical examination and treatment.

The President also requested the District Health Center to focus on communicating about health and disease prevention to take care of people's health more effectively; in which it is necessary to clearly communicate which diseases can be treated at the grassroots level to help patients feel secure in receiving treatment at the grassroots level.

Recalling Uncle Ho's advice "a good doctor is like a mother", the President hopes that doctors and medical staff will continue to follow his teachings, perform their professional duties well, care for and protect people's health, and contribute to the country's sustainable development in the coming time.

Earlier on the morning of February 25, President Vo Van Thuong visited and congratulated the doctors of Thanh Phong Commune Health Station, Thanh Liem District, and listened to reports on positive results in implementing grassroots health tasks.
