Implementing the policies of the Party, State, and Central Military Commission, the Border Guard Command under the Gia Lai Provincial Military Command has the task of managing and protecting the national border security and territorial sovereignty according to assigned tasks and powers.

According to Colonel Nguyen The Vinh - Commander of the Provincial Military Command, after the merger, the border area is large (including both sea and land routes), the force is thin, the leadership, command and operation mechanism, and coordination regulations with the forces have changed.

However, the Provincial Border Guard Command is united, proactive, creative, overcomes all difficulties, closely follows the situation and reality, properly performs the functions and tasks of the Border Guard and successfully completes assigned tasks.

The Provincial Border Guard has also actively and proactively advised and participated in building a strong political system at all levels in the border area, operating effectively and efficiently. In particular, the Provincial Border Guard has organized activities for 73 Party members in village and hamlet Party cells and 256 Party members of Border Guard stations in charge of 1,032 households; maintained the stable operation of 644 self-management groups with 9,660 members to carry out the movement "All people participate in protecting territorial sovereignty and national border security in the new situation".

In addition, the provincial Border Guard also promotes propaganda and mobilization of the masses; continues to effectively maintain models and programs for socio-economic development, associated with strengthening national defense and security in the locality. Typical programs are: Adopted children of Border Guard stations, Godmothers, Charity kitchens, Helping children go to school... supporting hundreds of cases in difficult circumstances.

At the Le Thanh International Border Guard Station, coordination with units stationed in the area, especially the Military, Police, Customs and border commune authorities, has been basically maintained in a disciplined and effective manner.

Lieutenant Colonel Do Nhu Kien, Head of the Le Thanh International Border Guard Station, said: The coordination regulations have been gradually adjusted by the unit to suit the new organizational model, ensuring unity in command and handling of situations. The work of grasping the situation, exchanging and processing information on border security, entry and exit activities, and import and export through the border gate is carried out regularly and promptly.

The unit maintains twinning activities between residential clusters on both sides of the border, contributing to strengthening the Vietnam-Cambodia solidarity and friendship, building a peaceful, stable, cooperative border for mutual development.

In the maritime border area, Cat Khanh Border Guard Station has thoroughly grasped specific tasks to each team and station to quickly deploy border work measures to adapt to changes after the merger. Officers and soldiers strictly followed the assignment, maintained internal solidarity, and did not have any situation where officers and soldiers wavered in their ideology.

“The Party Committee and Command Board have proactively contacted the local Party Committees and authorities of the three communes in charge and signed coordination plans with relevant forces stationed in the area. In general, after three months of merger, the unit has maintained the task of managing and protecting the national border continuously without interruption,” Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Duong, Head of Cat Khanh Border Guard Station, informed.

Solidarity and unity to perform tasks well

Speaking at the conference, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan assessed: The Provincial Party Committee and Military Command have proactively advised the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial People's Committee to lead and direct the timely, comprehensive, synchronous and effective implementation of military, national defense and border tasks, creating strong and effective changes in all aspects of work. In particular, the Provincial Military Command has effectively organized and smoothly operated the Border Guard Command model after the merger.

From there, it contributes to fulfilling the core role in building a solid defense zone; maintaining political security and social order and safety to ensure local socio-economic development.

Regarding the upcoming tasks, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Provincial Military Command and the Provincial Border Guard Command to continue to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement regulations on combat readiness; deploy synchronously, comprehensively, and in-depth working measures, grasp and forecast the situation early and from afar; promptly advise the Military Region 5 Command, the Border Guard Command, the Provincial Party Committee, and the Provincial People's Committee to propose effective policies, countermeasures, and measures to maintain national territorial sovereignty and border security, and avoid being passive and surprised.

The head of the provincial government also noted that the provincial Border Guard is directly under the Provincial Military Command but is still a unit with its own characteristics. From there, the two units must adjust and review the leadership, direction, coordination, and decentralization processes to ensure unity in command and relative independence between the two units. At the same time, propose that the competent authority of the Ministry of National Defense promptly resolve difficulties and problems in the process of operating the new model.

“The first thing is that the internal unity and solidarity must be maintained, and information must be regularly shared and exchanged. Only then can the task of firmly protecting territorial sovereignty and border security in particular and national defense tasks in general be completed well,” the Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee emphasized.
