There was a period when I hated rap.
Jennie (BlackPink) attracted attention when she became a guest on the latest podcast hosted by Dua Lipa. Here, the female idol opened up about her journey to becoming one of the most famous female Kpop stars.
Jennie confided about the pressures of being a Kpop idol.
The 1996-born female idol said that her mother is the person who influenced her life and made Jennie who she is today.
"My mother always had the wish that I not only experience my culture and country when I return home, but also travel around the world and be a free person wherever I go," Jennie confided.
Thanks to her mother's principles, Jennie was able to study abroad in New Zealand, broadening her worldview. She also talked about her time in New Zealand and the process of forming her dream of becoming a Kpop idol.
When she first debuted, she was confused because she liked singing but her position in the group was rapper. There was a period when she hated rap and felt exhausted. After calming down by watching videos of her performances, she was able to rekindle her passion for rap.

"I've never shared this anywhere, but I really want to say it. After our debut, we released 6 songs where my only role was to rap and only rap seriously, no other role.
I was a little confused because I realized that I really like to sing but I was never given the chance to explore singing since I was a trainee because they told me I should be a rapper. So there was a period where I hated rapping.
In my head, I was always thinking, 'This is not me, this is not the journey I envisioned, I don't think of myself as a rapper.' I definitely felt exhausted at some point," the female idol admitted.
I was afraid to reveal myself.
During her singing career, Jennie was criticized many times for her superficial performance on stage.

When asked if he had ever been misunderstood by people, rapper BlackPink said: “During the epidemic, I learned how to take care of my body and also discovered many things about myself.
All this happened because I kept hurting myself in performances and in life, comparing myself to other girls. I was stressed during this time…
I realized that the internship only helped me learn how to dance better, but not to ensure I was safe and healthy when performing the dance moves.”
She knew there was a time when she disappointed her fans but never had the chance to say so. That was when she didn't know how to control and use her body and thought that high heels weren't for her.

Jennie admitted that as a K-pop idol, many aspects of her were limited. That's why she was afraid to reveal herself.
"High heels and I are not meant for each other. When I have to move too much, especially when I try to dance in high heels, my strength will decrease very quickly because I don't feel comfortable. I want to tell my fans that I'm still in the process of discovering myself, so from now on, if anything happens, I will open up more," Jennie confided.
Jennie was born in 1996 and is a member of the girl group BlackPink under YG Entertainment. Born and raised in Korea, the female idol spent 5 years studying in New Zealand.
The female idol made her solo debut with the single "Solo" in 2018. The song was successful when it topped both the Gaon Digital Chart and the Billboard World Digital Songs Chart.
