Preparing for a trip to Hanoi to watch the parade celebrating the 80th anniversary of National Day September 2 (event A80), Ms. PTV (living in Ho Chi Minh City) looked into a tour with a price of 5 million VND including airfare and staying at a hotel advertised as having a “nice view”. However, after transferring the deposit, the scammer blocked all communication.

This is just one of many scam scenarios that bad guys use, taking advantage of people's great interest in the National Day parade.

According to cybersecurity expert Vu Ngoc Son - head of the Research, Consulting, Technology Development and International Cooperation Department of the National Cyber Security Association (NCA), holidays are always the time when criminals take advantage of people's increased needs to deploy many scams and spread false information on cyberspace.

The most common scams are cheap room bookings, "nice" locations to watch the parade, such as advertising hotel/homestay packages with attractive prices, super nice locations, requiring immediate deposit transfer to keep the opportunity, then disappearing; concert and event ticket transfer scams such as posting information about transferring "genuine, last minute" tickets, requiring money transfer to deliver the tickets, then appropriating the money when the victim transfers the money.

Not stopping there, bad guys also spread false information on cyberspace, spreading distorted information and defaming history.

Taking advantage of the effects of the movie Red Rain and the need to learn and look up historical events to insert false arguments, using AI to create fake clips, "poisoning information" for users.

Impersonating BTS stations to send branded SMS messages (brandname SMS) impersonating banks and delivery companies, asking to click on malicious links to follow instructions. From there, malware is installed, information is stolen, and accounts are stolen.

Mr. Son also recommended that people need to be more vigilant, only book rooms and receive tickets through official channels; and verify information about sellers and ticket givers.

People absolutely do not transfer money in advance to strangers without verification. Only receive historical and social information from official press and authorities.

Be wary of branded messages asking you to click on a link or provide a password/OTP; contact the bank or delivery unit directly for verification. Regularly update cybersecurity warnings and share them with your family and friends.

By correctly identifying scams and being careful with every click and every online transaction, everyone can protect themselves and their loved ones from the "traps" of cybercriminals.
