In recent days, forces of Hoi An ward and Hoi An World Cultural Heritage Management and Conservation Center have continuously inspected and supervised ancient works in the architectural complex of Hoi An ancient town.

According to the latest inventory results, up to now, the entire ancient town of Hoi An has 30 relics that are degraded at different levels. Of these, 9 relics are seriously degraded, 14 relics are heavily degraded and need to have solutions to reinforce and support.

At some ancient relics on Phan Chau Trinh, Nguyen Hue, Tran Quy Cap streets, etc., the roof support system, wooden beams, and columns have shown signs of decay. Some buildings have roof tiles that are bent down, causing rainwater to seep into the house.

These structures have been degraded for a long time because the houses are over a hundred years old. Every rainy and stormy season, forces have to come down to temporarily support the houses so they can survive the rainy and stormy season while waiting for fundamental restoration projects.

The Hoi An World Cultural Heritage Management and Conservation Center said that many ancient houses are now seriously degraded and must be relocated to safe housing.

According to the leader of Hoi An ward, this unit continuously monitors houses in disrepair and is ready to evacuate households in severely degraded houses outside when there is a storm.

However, in the process of authorities promoting procedures to support and document the current status of the relic for restoration, it is very difficult to contact the person whose name is on the relic's documents.

The reason is that the old houses have been passed down through many generations, many people have their names on the papers but rent out the house or transfer it to relatives to use.

Hoi An Ancient Town has about 1,130 relics, including 1,068 ancient houses, most of which are made of wood and are hundreds of years old.

The ancient architectural complex is located right at the downstream of Thu Bon River, so every year it is deeply flooded, affecting the life of the structure.
