Cities Skylines II console version delayed until next year

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên01/10/2023

According to Engadget , it looks like Cities Skylines II will be huge in scale. As the console release has been delayed until early 2024, in addition to the more demanding PC hardware specifications.

Prior to the delay, those who pre-ordered the game on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S will receive automatic refunds through those platforms. The developer of Colossal Order is also currently stopping pre-orders for the console version. Cities Skylines II will still be available on PC Game Pass on October 24, though.

The new minimum and recommended PC specs aren't much different from the original, but there are two notable changes. The recommended specs now require an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X processor instead of the Ryzen 5 5800X. For minimum specs, the game requires an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (or AMD equivalent) graphics card, up from the original GTX 780.

Colossal Order explained that the console delay and the PC hardware spec change stem from the same root cause: the game is large and requires more optimization than they anticipated.

2023 is a tough year for PC gaming in general. The diversity of the PC market has always been a challenge for developers, but console hardware is now far ahead of PC, making large-scale games difficult to deploy on PC. With the news of Cities: Skylines II , it seems Colossal Order is trying to protect itself from this situation.
