Young soldiers ask questions at a workshop introducing job opportunities for demobilized soldiers, co-organized by the Department of Home Affairs of Hue City. |
Advantages of being trained in the military
At the job introduction workshop for discharged soldiers organized by the Japan Construction Skills Human Resources Organization (JAC) in collaboration with Hai Phong Investment, Trade and Construction Company Limited, young soldier Nguyen Duc Loc attentively read each page of the leaflet. The information about job opportunities in Japan and the incentives for discharged soldiers helped him find a new direction for himself.
Duc Loc was born in 2005, his hometown is Phong Dinh ward. After finishing 9th grade, he worked as an auto mechanic and then joined the army. By the end of this year, Loc will have completed his military service. When he received notice of the job introduction seminar, he eagerly participated. "In my relatives, there are two sisters who work in Japan under labor contracts and are now stable in their lives. I also hope that through this seminar, I will have more opportunities to go to Japan to work and have a stable job for a long time after being discharged from the army," Loc shared.
Before Loc, many discharged soldiers quickly found jobs through overseas work programs. With the advantage of style, discipline and will trained in the army, they confidently conquered the international labor market.
Nguyen Van Thuong, from Phu Vang commune, is one of them. After leaving the army, he registered to participate in the labor dispatch program and is currently working in the recycled plastics manufacturing industry in Japan, with an average salary of about 30 million VND/month. “The discipline, punctuality and ability to withstand pressure trained in the army helped me not feel overwhelmed when entering the factory. At first, it was difficult because of the language barrier, but thanks to the support of colleagues and the dispatching company, I overcame it,” Thuong shared.
According to Mr. Thuong, working abroad not only brings income, but also helps to learn industrial style and professional skills, so that when returning home, one can start a business more confidently.
In the first seven months of 2025, Hue city created jobs for more than 12,350 workers, reaching 70% of the yearly plan. Of these, 1,614 people were sent to work abroad under contracts, reaching 77% of the plan. The main markets include Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan (China), focusing on engineering, nursing, and manufacturing industries.
Mr. Tran Minh Long, Deputy Director of the Department of Home Affairs, said: “Job opportunities for discharged soldiers in Hue are wide open, especially when the city focuses on developing the overseas labor market. The advantages of soldiers are discipline and health. If they persevere in learning the language and practicing communication skills, they can easily keep up with the modern industrial environment.”
Practical bridge
To expand employment opportunities for demobilized soldiers, the government regularly coordinates with businesses and international organizations to organize seminars on “Introducing and sharing employment programs”. This is a practical bridge, helping soldiers access information about new labor markets, from construction, mechanics, food processing to nursing.
At the seminars, soldiers were explained clearly about the selection, training, and departure processes, as well as the rights and obligations when working abroad. Real stories from previous workers were also shared, helping young soldiers to be more confident in their choices.
It is worth noting that many programs have reasonable costs, with incentives specifically for soldiers after discharge, and are supported with preferential loans, helping to reduce the financial burden on their families. Soldiers also have all their questions answered about costs, legal procedures, and difficulties they may encounter when working away from home.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tuyen, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hai Phong Group, said: With more than 15 years of experience in sending workers to work in Japan, we not only introduce a job, but also build a roadmap from learning Japanese, vocational training to departure and accompanying during the working process in Japan. Workers are granted legal vocational certificates, work in a modern environment and are legally guaranteed. Before participating, candidates are provided with clear information about the company, work location, specific jobs, salary as well as basic deductions.
“Every soldier who goes to work abroad under a labor contract after being discharged from the army, when they return, not only has international experience, but also a solid enough financial and career foundation to develop in their own homeland,” Mr. Tuyen shared.
According to Mr. Tran Minh Long, the Department of Home Affairs continues to expand the overseas labor market, diversify occupations, and seek new partners; especially focusing on the group of soldiers after demobilization. "The goal is not only to solve immediate employment, but also to create a skilled workforce with the ability to integrate so that when returning to the locality, they can start a sustainable business," Mr. Tran Minh Long affirmed.
