A university student has 4 weeks off for Lunar New Year

Today (November 1), many universities announced their Lunar New Year 2024 holiday schedules. The schools plan to give students a long break of 4-5 weeks.

Specifically, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade will give students 28 days off for Lunar New Year, starting from January 29, 2024 to February 25, 2024.

Dr. Thai Doan Thanh, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said that with the above plan, the school creates conditions for students living far away to proactively leave early and come in late to conveniently buy train and bus tickets at affordable prices.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry also announced the 2024 Lunar New Year holiday schedule for students. Accordingly, the holiday period starts from January 29, 2024 to February 18, 2024, or 21 days.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics plans to let students have Lunar New Year holiday from February 2, 2024 to February 18, 2024.

International University (Ho Chi Minh City National University) also plans to give students a Tet holiday from February 5, 2024 to February 17, 2024.

According to the expected time frame of the 2023-2024 school year, the University of Finance and Marketing has a Tet holiday schedule for students from February 5, 2024 to February 18, 2024.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture also plans to have a 3-week Tet holiday, from January 29, 2024 to February 18, 2024. This tentative schedule will be announced in the school's 2023-2024 training schedule.

Online teaching weeks before and after Tet

Notably, some universities switched to online teaching the week before and after Tet so that students living far from home could return home early before Tet and return to school later after the holiday.

For example, the University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University) officially gives students a Lunar New Year holiday from February 5, 2024 to February 18, 2024. However, students can study online 2 weeks before and 1 week after the Lunar New Year. Thus, students who live far away from home to study in the city can return home during the 5-week, or more than a month, Tet holiday.

Master Cu Xuan Tien, Head of Admissions and Student Affairs Department of the University of Economics and Law, said that with the above plan, students can go home early and start school late. This will create conditions for students to have more time with their families and at the same time reduce the pressure of train and bus tickets during Tet.

Previously, according to information from the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, according to the 2023-2024 school year schedule for preschool education , general education and continuing education issued by the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, the city stipulates that preschool children and general education students will have Lunar New Year holidays starting from February 5, 2024 (ie the 26th day of the 12th lunar month) to February 18, 2024 (ie the 9th day of the Lunar New Year). Based on the above Lunar New Year holiday schedule, including weekends before and after the prescribed time, students in Ho Chi Minh City will have a total of 16 days off.

The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has officially submitted to the Government a draft plan for the 2024 Lunar New Year holiday. Specifically, civil servants and public employees will have a holiday from February 8, 2024 to February 14, 2024 (ie December 29, Quy Mao year to January 5, Giap Thin year). Thus, the Tet holiday lasts 7 days (including 5 Tet holidays and 2 compensatory days off for weekly holidays as prescribed in Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Code).
