Princess Kate plays tennis with Roger Federer

Princess Kate played a friendly match with tennis legend Federer at Wimbledon, then met ball girls and boys.

The friendly match between Princess Kate and Roger Federer took place on the court in Wimbledon, England on June 25. Before the match started, Federer asked Princess Kate if she wanted to serve first. "I think you should serve," said the Princess.

In the short match, Princess Kate won a point against Federer, an eight-time Wimbledon champion. Federer later commented that "the match went smoothly, it was great".

Kate is a royal patron of the All England Club and regularly watches Wimbledon from the VIP box. Kate recently took on the responsibility of presenting the trophy to the tournament winner.

Kate and Federer then tried their hand at ball boy work, highlighting the important role these young boys and girls play and the training they go through to qualify for Wimbledon.

"Wimbledon is famous for its ball boys and girls who are so skilled and professional that they handle an incredible amount of work. It's incredible to see behind the scenes," said Princess Kate.

Federer then played against another opponent and Kate was ball boy. She caught a ball that was flying towards her. Federer and the girl explained that ball boys in Australia can do that, but at Wimbledon the ball has to fall and bounce before it can be caught.

Wimbledon, held at the All England Club in Wimbledon, London since 1877, is considered the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world . Wimbledon is one of the four Grand Slam tournaments, the others being the Australian Open, the French Open and the US Open. Wimbledon is the only major tournament held on grass courts.

Federer, 42, is considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time, a 20-time Grand Slam winner. Federer announced his retirement last year and played the final match of his 24-year career against Rafael Nadal at the Laver Cup in London.
