(Dan Tri) - Jannik Sinner made tennis history when he became the first Italian tennis player to win Wimbledon. Sinner received many congratulations after defeating Carlos Alcaraz to win the championship.

In the immediate aftermath of the victory, congratulatory messages poured in from across the tennis world , from Maria Sharapova, Billie Jean King, Roger Federer's former coaches, Coco Gauff and many others. Sinner defeated Alcaraz in a grueling 3 hours and 4 minutes on Centre Court to win his first Wimbledon title. In doing so, Sinner avenged the Roland Garros final just a month earlier, where Alcaraz beat him in a thrilling five-set match.

Congratulations poured in for Sinner, and Sharapova was one of the first to chime in. She brought back one of their old hilarious Christmas videos and shared it on X (formerly Twitter), writing: "I know one day you'll regret this. Congratulations, champion. Patience, calm, and class."

Billie Jean King, Rod Laver, Brad Gilbert (Gauff's former coach) and Ivan Ljubicic (Federer's former coach) also shared their thoughts on social network X.

Twelve-time Grand Slam champion King wrote: "Congratulations to Jannik Sinner on his maiden Wimbledon title. He is the first Italian to win a singles title at Wimbledon."

"Congratulations to Jannik Sinner on winning his first Wimbledon title in a thrilling match against Carlos Alcaraz. Their ever-growing rivalry is a gift to our sport , and it is also worthy of the genuine respect they have for each other. Win or lose, they play with joy, class and sportsmanship. Gilbert shared: "Congratulations Sinner. Great effort to win Wimbledon first place. Go for it."

Barbora Krejcikova, Holger Rune, Alex de Minaur and Manchester City star Jack Grealish were among those who left comments under Jannik Sinner's Instagram post to congratulate Sinner on his success.

Jannik Sinner has shared a heartfelt and motivational message for Carlos Alcaraz following their epic Wimbledon final clash. He admitted that facing Alcaraz was incredibly difficult and praised his opponent for pushing him to his limits.

Sinner said in his victory speech: "Once again the tournament was fantastic, but above all thank you to Alcaraz for who he is. It was difficult to play against him, but we have a great relationship both on and off the court, which we always try to build, and to do that we need the best teams in the world."

The Italian also encouraged his opponent to keep going and work hard: "Keep going, keep working hard and you will hold this trophy many times. You already have two titles."

With Wimbledon in hand, Jannik Sinner has won two of the three Grand Slam titles so far this year. Now his focus is on the North American hard courts, where he will aim to defend his US Open title in August and continue his excellent form.
