Speaking to the press before the new school year, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said that the Ministry is finalizing a draft of detailed regulations on salaries, allowances and policies to attract and support teachers. Accordingly, it is expected that the basic salary of all teachers will increase by at least VND2 million, and up to VND7 million/person/month. This increase is only calculated on the basic salary, not including other allowances.

Not long ago, when the information about the National Assembly's resolution on tuition exemption and support for preschool children, high school students, and students studying general education programs in educational institutions under the national education system was widely announced, Ha's mother and daughter in the residential area where I live still could not believe it. Her mother went to several neighbors to ask again and again to be sure. Ha's family has 3 sisters close in age. Her mother once complained that the burden of studying for her children was beyond the family's income. Ha, the eldest, once confided to me that she would quit school to help her mother sell water on the street. But then on the opening day of the new school year a few days ago, I still saw her cycling past my house, smiling brightly in her uniform. So she still went to school.

The tuition fees were not too high, but once all three of them were exempted, the financial burden was no longer too heavy on their mother's cart. The wheels on the cart to school were no longer too heavy, making them worry as they walked.

And just a few days ago, a younger brother who is an electricity teacher asked me: Do you know when we will get a raise? Hearing the Minister say that made me cry with joy. I can only say that, once the person in charge says it, it is no longer a joke. It will soon become a reality.

Many times before, my younger brother expressed to me his intention to change to another career, even though he is a competent teacher. The attractiveness of income from many other professions has distracted many teachers, while the official income from teaching cannot act as a "sedative" for a part of teachers at the present time.

In the conversation with my younger brother, I saw that he was very happy, although neither I nor he could confirm for sure when the number in his account would change after the monthly "ting-ting" sound. The increased income could not be realized right now, but his somewhat stable mindset was a reality. I think that comes from the fact that not only my younger brother, but many other teachers have the same feeling, that is, they feel cared for.

When students with financial difficulties go to school without being burdened by money, we believe that the road to school will become shorter. When teachers standing on the podium are no longer too distracted by food and clothing, their lectures will be clear and high. Humane policies in education related to "money and rice bowls" can be considered as leniency to some extent, reducing the pressure on teaching and learning. Those positive "pushes" will change the quality of education. We believe in that.
