The program "Supporting Farmers" is not simply about providing capital, but also about imparting knowledge and trust... to help farmers, especially rural women, become more confident.

Meaningful capital

40 farming households in Hong Son and Ham Duc communes, Ham Thuan Bac district, Binh Thuan have just received capital from the "Supporting Farmers" program to have more resources for economic development and improve their lives.

Farmers were excited and happy because they not only received interest-free loans for 2 years but also received additional support in livestock farming techniques. Their children also received scholarships and memorable experiences at the program.

Take the example of Ms. Trinh Thi Xuan Bich's household in village 2, Ham Duc commune. Her family has 3 children, the oldest of whom is entering 8th grade this year and the youngest is 19 months old. The whole family's life depends on the husband's job as a bricklayer. However, the income from this job, which is busy from morning to night, cannot balance the current standard of living, not to mention when the weather changes.

The family built a level 4 house but lacked money to plaster the walls. When it rained, water splashed and flowed everywhere. Despite the difficulties, the couple always tried to provide books for their children to go to school.

"My husband and I are already in a difficult situation and cannot let our children follow in our footsteps," Bich shared.

Previously, the family received local support for loans as poor households. With the initial capital, the couple immediately bought a cow to raise, earning a profit. But thinking about the future of all 3 children going to higher education, the couple could not help but worry.

Hearing that the "Farmer Support" program would be interested and provide capital this time, the couple was extremely happy. Ms. Bich's joy was also the common feeling of the households that had just received capital from this program.

Two years ago, Ms. Do Thi An's family situation in village 1, Hong Son commune was even more difficult. Her husband died early from cancer, leaving her and her two daughters with a dilapidated house.

She did whatever she was hired to do, day and night, so that her children could go to school with their peers. At that time, she had no assets other than her own work.

With the funding from the Farmers Support Program, she was able to buy a cow, repair the barn, and raise chickens and ducks. After two years, the cow gave birth to a calf and was preparing for another litter. She also paid back the previous loan on time.

For Ms. An, that capital is not only the current assets of 3 cows but also the motivation for her to continue living with her children. Thanks to that, her children also try harder to study and achieve good results. Staying up late and waking up early doing many jobs, but thinking about her children studying well makes her forget all her worries.

Sharing knowledge, sending trust

The 2024 "Supporting Farmers" program is the 5th time coming to farmers in Hong Son and Ham Duc communes, Ham Thuan Bac district, Binh Thuan.

According to the organizers, the program not only contributes to improving the lives of Vietnamese farming families, but also creates a great social impact. About 2,620 farming households in 24 provinces and cities across the country have improved their livelihoods thanks to this meaningful program. Of which, the proportion of women participating in the program accounts for 95%.

"From primitive farming and old habits, they have now changed and improved science and technology to apply in farming with the capital that GREENFEED has accompanied and supported. After training, GREENFEED also arranged technical staff to stay in the area so that people can contact them for advice when needed," Mr. Thang happily said.

Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nguyen - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Tuoi Tre Newspaper - said that the humanitarian meaning of the program does not stop at providing capital, but rather imparting knowledge and trust to farmers. This is considered a solid fishing rod for them to rise out of poverty, and for their children to have more motivation to study.

Sharing more about the significance of the program, Mr. Nguyen Phu Hoang - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Binh Thuan province - said that this not only provides practical financial support, but also focuses on helping people access effective livestock farming models.

Thereby, the program contributes to helping local farmers overcome difficulties and escape poverty, especially rural women, to become economically independent, take care of their children's education, and improve their daily quality of life.
