The Hanoi Moi Newspaper has officially launched a writing contest: "Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Capital's Liberation: Proud Memories" on the Hanoi Moi Electronic Newspaper and the Hanoi Moi Weekend publication.

For many years, Hanoi - the land of a thousand years of culture - has been a familiar subject of literary, musical and artistic creation in general. However, with the writing contest launched by Hanoi Moi Newspaper , the topics will be narrowed down to around 1954.

The contest aims to widely propagate to cadres, party members and people of all walks of life the importance and historical significance of the Capital Liberation Day, the glorious tradition of revolutionary struggle and the great contributions of the Party Committee, armed forces and people of Hanoi in the cause of national liberation, building and defending the Fatherland; to propagate and educate the morality of "remembering the source of water when drinking"; the thousand-year tradition of Thang Long - Hanoi associated with the 25th anniversary of Hanoi being honored by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as "City for Peace ", contributing to arousing love and aspiration to develop the "Cultural - Civilized - Modern" Capital; to promote the image and culture of the Capital to localities nationwide and international friends.

The contest is a meaningful activity contributing to the city's common activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day, practically celebrating the 67th anniversary of the first issue of the daily Hanoi Moi Newspaper (October 24, 1957 - October 24, 2024), while continuing to contribute to innovation, improving the quality of the Newspaper's publications, and promoting the brand of the Capital's Party newspaper.

Hanoi Moi Newspaper identified this as an opportunity to widely propagate and promote the tradition, culture and history of Thang Long - Hanoi, especially the economic - cultural - social achievements of the Capital in the journey of 7 decades of development.

The entries are memoirs, memories and documents about historical events or figures related to the Dien Bien Phu victory and the period of taking over the capital (October 1954); reflecting the social atmosphere in Hanoi after the liberation and the period of socialist construction...

The subjects in the works can also be examples of good people doing good deeds, labor heroes, and outstanding citizens of the Capital with many contributions to the City; initiatives and proposals to build and develop the Capital in the direction of "Cultured - Civilized - Modern".

Sharing at the launching ceremony, journalist Nguyen Minh Duc, Editor-in-Chief of Hanoi Moi Newspaper, said: "I hope that writers will pay attention to the city's movements so that they can write profound and convincing articles about an 'extraordinary Hanoi in its vitality' as poet Bang Viet once wrote."

The contest invites authors of all ages, both domestic and foreign, from professional to amateur writers to bring their own aspects and perspectives.

Mr. Tran Van My, one of the writers invited to speak at the ceremony, also expressed his wish to have the participation of all ages: With 70 years having passed, we are entering the third generation since 1954. Young people have their own perspectives and he wishes to understand more about Hanoi through those perspectives.

The Organizing Committee will start accepting entries from after the launching ceremony (March 28 to September 10, 2024 (according to the time on the postmark or displayed on the email box).

Contest entries must be in the genres of essays, memoirs, notes, reports, and photo reports. Each work must not exceed 1,500 words (for the memoirs and notes genres, a series of articles can be written, but a maximum of 3 installments, each installment must not exceed 1,500 words) and must have illustrations.

The prize structure includes 1 First prize worth 30 million VND, 2 Second prizes (15 million VND/prize), 3 Third prizes (10 million VND/prize), 10 Consolation prizes (3 million VND/prize).

Quality entries will be published in the Hanoi Moi e-newspaper and the Hanoi Moi Weekend publication (published every Thursday) and will be paid royalties according to the newspaper's regulations.

The closing ceremony and award ceremony are expected to take place on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day (October 10, 2024).
