Da Nang exempts more than 108 billion VND in tuition fees for students

On July 30, at the 19th session of the 10th term of the People's Council of Da Nang City, term 2021-2026, the Resolution on tuition exemption for students in the 2024-2025 school year and the Resolution on supporting the cost of buying smartphones for poor and near-poor households were passed.

According to the approved Resolution, Da Nang will support 100% of tuition fees for public preschool and general education for 9 months of the 2024-2025 school year. Support 100% of tuition fees for students studying high school cultural knowledge and general education programs in public and private vocational education institutions for up to 9 months of the 2024-2025 school year.

Subjects who are entitled to tuition fee reduction according to the policies of the Central Government and the City will be compensated with support equal to 100% of the tuition fees for public preschool and general education in the 2024-2025 school year.

Da Nang City budget supports 100% of the tuition fee level prescribed by Da Nang City People's Council and the total estimated cost is about more than 108.1 billion VND.

The subjects of application are preschool children, students of public and non-public general schools, including students at continuing education centers following the general education program, private primary school students who are eligible for tuition reduction policies according to regulations.

Students with permanent residence in Da Nang City who are studying high school cultural knowledge and general education programs in public and private vocational education institutions in Da Nang City are also entitled to this policy.

Preschool children, primary school students and students at vocational training institutions of foreign-invested educational institutions are not exempt from tuition fees.

Regarding the Resolution to support the cost of buying smartphones for poor and near-poor households when 2G is turned off in September 2024, in the coming time, the People's Committee of Da Nang City will support a maximum of 2 million VND/device/household for each case of a poor or near-poor household according to the city's standards where all members of the household do not have a smartphone. Each household in this category will only be supported a maximum of once.

Da Nang currently has more than 3,800 households without smartphones. Of these, mobile telecommunications companies will support Da Nang with a total of 2,010 smartphones, the remaining 1,800 households without smartphones will be supported by the Da Nang People's Committee with the purchase cost.
