(Dan Tri) - Kumquat trees discarded after Tet were donated and reused by a district in Da Nang city to green public lands.

On February 1, the People's Committee of Son Tra District (Da Nang City) announced that the District Youth Union has just launched a program to donate kumquat trees to green the walking garden.

The program was launched with the desire to take advantage of the value of kumquat trees after Tet to green public lands, joining hands to protect the environment.

According to the leader of the People’s Committee of Son Tra District, on the occasion of Lunar New Year, kumquat trees have brought beauty and a warm spring atmosphere to families. However, after Tet, many kumquat trees are often thrown away, causing waste and affecting the environment.

The district will receive donations of kumquat trees that are still able to grow from families, agencies and units. The kumquat trees will be cared for and reused to plant in public gardens, bringing green space to the community.

The leader of the People's Committee of Son Tra district added that after having the number of donated trees, the district will direct the District Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the People's Committees of wards and the Urban and Environmental Enterprise to coordinate to select locations for tree planting.

In the Central region, many people have the habit of decorating Tet with kumquat trees laden with fruit. Kumquat gardens in Da Nang and Hoi An cities annually supply the market with thousands of kumquat pots.
