Russian ambassador says investigators know who gave the order, Germany rejects a proposal

On July 18, TASS news agency cited information from an interview with Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev saying that the German government continued to reject the proposal to open an international investigation into the attack on the Nord Stream gas pipeline in September 2022.

Ambassador Nechaev stated: "Despite repeated calls from Russia, the German government continues to reject any proposal to conduct an international investigation into the terrorist attacks on Europe's largest energy infrastructure. The German side referred to the ongoing investigation and emphasized the inability to intervene.

During this time, no official statement has been released that could shed light on the matter. The matter is being pushed forward by all possible means. The date when the investigation is likely to be completed has not been announced yet."

The Russian diplomat noted that Denmark and Sweden have closed their own investigations into the incident. Berlin now has the exclusive right to investigate the sabotage of the gas pipeline connecting Russia and Germany.

Meanwhile, Europe's largest economy suffered the most significant loss when this gas pipeline was sabotaged because it is the main gas consumer of Moscow and is the gas distribution center of the continent.

“I think that investigators have known for a long time who ordered and carried out the largest terrorist attack on the Nord Stream gas infrastructure.

Traces of such a crime cannot be hidden, especially when the investigating party has at its disposal all means of surveillance and intelligence,” Russian Ambassador to Germany Nechaev asserted.

* The Nord Stream sabotage incident was also repeatedly mentioned by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on July 17 at a press conference at the United Nations.

Russia's foreign minister said that after imposing sanctions on Russia, Europe started paying an additional 200 billion euros for energy resources.

“The European economy is currently struggling because it is forced to bear the main burden of sanctions. And of course, the Nord Stream gas pipelines, which were intended to continue to ensure prosperity for the German economy, have been blown up,” he stressed.
