Dak Lak: Commune proposes not to extend sand mine to prevent riverbank erosion

A commune in Dak Lak has sent a document to the provincial authorities, requesting consideration and not to renew the mineral exploitation license for the enterprise in order to protect the riverbank.

Accordingly, the People's Committee of Nam Ka commune has sent a document to the People's Committee of Dak Lak province and relevant departments to consider not extending the mineral exploitation license for Phu Binh Company Limited (expired on June 28, 2025) because the Krong No river basin is currently experiencing very serious erosion.

Sand mining near the shore causes landslides and washaways of people's productive land along the Krong No River.

Specifically, the commune requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to soon deploy a project to survey, evaluate, determine the cause, and propose solutions to overcome the landslide on the banks of the Krong No River; provide the People's Committee of Nam Ka commune with a map of the location and coordinates of the sand mining area of ​​Xuan Binh Company Limited, so that the locality has a basis for monitoring and inspection.

At the same time, the Provincial People's Committee advised the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee to consider stopping sand mining on the left bank of the Krong No River, from the Buon Tua Srah Hydropower Dam to the end of the main road of Nam Ka Commune with a length of about 16 km.

Propose that the Provincial Police regularly send waterway traffic patrol teams to patrol the Krong No River from the Buon Tua Srah hydroelectric dam to self-management team No. 3, Plao Sieng village, Nam Ka commune.

Nam Ka Commune People's Committee said that from 2013 to now, in Nam Ka and Ea R'bin communes (old Lak district), about 20 landslides have been recorded, with an area of ​​about 160 hectares; of which there are 7 severe landslides, with sections over 500 meters long, causing hundreds of hectares of people's production land to be completely wiped out.
